Fans are still hung up on the first trailer superman and director James Gunn recently shared his own thoughts, saying it captured the true “essence” of the film.
Speaking about his intentions for the trailer, Gunn explained: “I guess I wanted the trailer to really capture the essence of the movie. You know, the movie is optimistic, but it also has its dark moments.
“It’s a big science fiction movie, but it’s also grounded in the way we treat the characters and everything else.
“So I wanted it to be the essence of Superman, the Superman that I grew up with, the Superman that I love, but also something new.”
The filmmaker also said that playing Superman was a “contradiction,” explaining that “the traditional aspects of Superman, the hope and honesty and kindness of Superman, and the hot-blooded qualities of Superman, end up being very… pretty.
Gunn continued: “So I think that’s really the core of the movie. And, you know, giving the appearance of some of the big science fiction moments that you know, being able to get a glimpse of Krypton, who’s an important character.
“Certainly, seeing the relationship between Clark and Lois, I think it’s unlike any relationship we’ve ever seen in any medium, for Lois and Superman to be able to see that, get a glimpse of that, and Rachel is so amazing”.
superman will follow “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent in Smallville, Kansas.”
“He was the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that views kindness as obsolete.”
“It’s set in a very different world from ours and very far removed from the DCEU. The heroes have been around for many years and we’ll see how it affects the history of that world and shapes the DCU.”
