With Outlander ending for good, Starz is betting big on the broader franchise.
As previously reported, Outlander: My Blood is coming to premium cable.
The audience will travel back in time to see Julia Morriston (played by Miriam Cofield), Henry Beauchamp (played by Jeremy Irwin), Ellen Mackenzie (played by Harriet Slater) ) and the early lives of Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy).
This time, we get not one but two central love stories, which could be a recipe for success or disaster.
Only time will tell if this franchise extension is worth our time, but we’re getting to look back with parents Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe).
Is the Outlander franchise in decline?
It’s not the worst hook in the world, but Outlander has failed to stand the test of time in recent seasons.
So here’s hoping this spin-off series provides a nice palate cleanser and gets us back to stronger storytelling with audiences in mind.
The first trailer is a spectacle, throwing all kinds of emotional beats at the audience in 45 seconds.
According to Starz, the show tells the story of “two couples who overcome all odds and end up together, as their love story unfolds over time.”
“From the battlefields of World War I to the rugged Highlands of 18th-century Scotland, two doomed love stories must defy the forces that seek to tear them apart, intertwining in surprising and unforeseen ways.”
Who will star in Outlander: My Blood?
The cast of Outlander includes Murtagh Fitzgibbons-Fraser (Rory Alexander) and Mrs. Fitz (Sally Mesham), Alan’s brother sisters, Colum McKenzie (Seamus Maclean Ross), Dougal McKenzie (Sam Retford) and Jocasta Cameron (Sadeb) Marin).
There’s also their legal adviser Ned Gowan (Conor MacNeil) and Brian’s father Lord Simon Fraser-Lowatt (Tony Curran).
Matthew B. Roberts is showrunner and executive producer of the Outlander and Daemon series. Ronald D. Moore, Mariel Davis and Jim Kohlberg serve as executive producers on both films.
“Outlander: Blood of My Blood” is produced by Tall Ship Productions, No Fooling Productions Inc., Story Mining & Supply Company and Sony Pictures Television and will stream on all STARZ platforms in the United States and Canada.
Starz hasn’t scheduled Outlander Season 8 yet, so it’s surprising we’re getting a spin-off first, but the network hopes people are still hungry for this universe.
What do you think, out-of-town fanatics? Is there room for other shows in this universe?
