Paris Hilton is stepping up to help those affected by Los Angeles’ devastating wildfires.
On Friday (January 10), the 43-year-old simple life The alumna announced on social media that she will launch an emergency fund through her nonprofit organization 11:11 Media Impact to support families who lost their homes in the fire.
“My heart goes out to everyone affected by the devastating fires in Los Angeles,” Hilton wrote on Instagram. “While I lost my home in Malibu, my thoughts are with the countless families who have lost more — Their homes, treasured keepsakes, communities they love, and their sense of stability.”
The singer and entrepreneur added: “As a mom, I can’t imagine the pain and fear it causes your baby to not have a safe place to go.”
She went on to announce that she would personally contribute $100,000 to the fund and would match additional donations of up to $100,000. “I ask others to join me in doing our part to support these families,” she wrote.
Hilton is partnering with CORE, the Los Angeles emergency response organization founded by Sean Penn and Ann Lee. The funds will provide displaced families with short-term housing, hotel stays, necessities at evacuation centers and support for local animal shelters.
Hilton’s charitable efforts came shortly after she watched her Malibu home burn down live on television. She posted a heartfelt message on Instagram on Wednesday (January 8): “Heartbroken beyond words. Sitting with my family, watching the news, and seeing our home in Malibu being destroyed on live TV. Burning down is something no one should have to go through. This home is where we made many of our cherished memories. It was where Phoenix took her first steps and where we dreamed of building lifelong memories.
She continued, “Despite the tragic loss, I am grateful that my family and pets are safe. My heart and prayers go out to every family affected by the fires. To all who have lost their homes, memories, and beloved pets People. My heart aches for those who are still hurting or mourning a greater loss. The devastation caused is unimaginable.
