As we approach the end of the season, the story is really picking up. We can see some new medical emergencies unfolding while delving into the lives of doctors and nurses.
Plot summary
This episode allows us to see how much Landon’s sudden exit from the ER will lose to the team. Robbie didn’t have the right guy obviously overwhelmed. Mohan’s intuition impressed Whitaker – although this led to another conflict with Robbie. Meanwhile, both Collins and McKay faced difficult cases, facing them as their mothers. On top of that, Dana gave up on the bombshell about her future in the hospital until the shocking notification changed everything for Pitt’s team.

New case
Mohan and Whitaker treat patients with severe pain, but because of Mohan’s quick thinking, they realize he just wants to get morphine. At first, Dennis seemed skeptical, but when Samira gave the patient medication to relieve his withdrawal, he was impressed by how she handled it. Of course, this is not good with Robby, as Samira once again bypasses his right to call alone without asking him.
Highlights
Collins opens up to Robbie to share that she has lost the IVF baby. However, instead of living on it, she focused on a case involving an agent mom that had to be served to a friend’s child in the emergency room. True to Pete’s style, in a very graphic scene, the doctor will have a difficult delivery and save the baby. This storyline involves different aspects of parenting – the joy and attention of new parents and the quiet sadness of Heather for her own loss.
Later, Collins admitted that she tried to get pregnant multiple times but might have to stop because treatment was very expensive and she might not be a mother after all. She also revealed that she had been pregnant but was not ready, so she decided to have an abortion without telling her father. Since some people suggest Collins and Robbie had a romantic relationship in the past, Robbie and the audience were wondering if he could be that father. The show cleverly makes this unclear.
McKay also solved his mother’s struggle. She manages a difficult case involving a mom who has severe bleeding with the assistance of Javadi and Robby. The woman’s youngest daughter also needs a liver transplant and shares how she has to take care of her mother by herself. The case stirs up emotions between Victoria (reflecting on mom) and Casey (considering her son). By the end, Cassie decides to face her ex’s girlfriend, who seems to have gone beyond the line and inspires her movements – something that was previously suggested, as we learn that the woman has a restraining order on McKay.

Despite Langdon’s attempt to reach out, Robbie refused to talk to him. In addition to comforting Theresa, Langdon’s absence has caused Robby to juggle multiple complicated cases. Robbie supports her and convinces her that it is the right move for her boy because he really needs help.
Later, as Robbie also sent Collins to rest, but only one hour left in the class to work, Dana threw a bomb at him, admitting she was considering quitting. After all, she felt the job was too overwhelming and risky, but please make sure that without her he would handle things well. Just like they were talking about it, they got a shocking alarm from an active shooter on Pittfest, where Jack, Robbie’s stepson and his girlfriend were there.

Characters of the week
Heather Collins: Throughout the story, Collins shows us that she is a complex character. On the one hand, Heather proves her productivity and hard work because she can overcome the most difficult moments to fulfill her duties, but we can see her vulnerability that makes her more relevant.
Michael Robby Robinavitch: Robbie may seem like everything is under control of him, but this episode reminds us of his tendency toward the team. The emergency room would not be able to operate without the relationship he had established with them.
The final thought
The intense Cliffhanger clearly shows why this transition is beyond the usual 12 hours. Obviously, the focus of the rest of the season will be on resolving the crisis and ending ongoing plots and cases. Also, will the shooter become Theresa’s son David? It’s a simple guess – but I think maybe they’ll surprise us again.
