Fish remembered Phil Lesh at the opening concert of the band’s fall tour.
Hours after Lesh’s death on Friday (October 25), the jam band legend paid tribute to the late bassist with a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Box of Rain” at MVP Arena in Albany, New York.
This performance marks Phish’s first cover of “Box of Rain.” Guitarist Trey Anastasio reportedly played the 1970 song with Lesh at a 2015 Grateful Dead gig at Fare Thee Well. rolling stones.

Lesh, a founding member and longtime bassist of the Grateful Dead, died on Friday at the age of 84. An important part of the band has become synonymous with the Grateful Dead.
As of press time, a cause of death had not been given.
Before Fish’s concert, Anastasio expressed his heartfelt remembrances to Lesh, with whom he shared the stage on multiple occasions.
“Phil was more than just a revolutionary, groundbreaking bassist, he changed the way I viewed music as a teenager,” Anastasio wrote on Instagram. “I have countless memories of standing in awe, listening to his sinuous and eloquent bass lines seamlessly blend with Jerry and Bobby’s guitars, Brent Madland’s keys, and Billy and Mickey’s thunderous drums. Fusion. I’m so grateful for those wonderful memories.
