Playboi Carti continues to put music out on social media rather than streaming services.
The Atlanta rapper posted “Play This” on his @opium_00pium Instagram account on Friday (November 22) to follow up his recent ComplexCon performance in Las Vegas. This strategy is interesting because he has dropped a lot of songs this year, but most have only been released on social media or YouTube. We asked producer Cardo (his frequent collaborator) about the above strategy, and he suggested that Cardi might be testing the waters, as he’s always experimenting with new sounds and processes.
Produced by Roark Barley and V-Ron, the song is a nice little ditty that sounds just like the songs he’s released on Soundcloud before. He raps about driving women crazy, doing various drugs, and more. Do you know? It’s commonplace, but in a way that only someone like Cardi can do, so it’s definitely fun and a good warm-up for his highly anticipated upcoming album i am music.

He jumped in the comments on the song’s IG post and told fans he shared the song because it’s one of his favorite songs, writing: “I’m not done with DIS SUM COOL S at all— I want you to hear BC I love this song but it’s so bad it’s on my album OVRLY TRIMM.
He mentioned the album and revealed that Ye is currently working on it with him at a recent club gig. “Shout out to my na Kanye, you know what I’m talking about,” he told the crowd as their first hit, “Carnival,” came on. “He’s making beats and shit here. That album is going to be crazy and I can’t wait to show it to you guys.
