In this episode of Powerbook II: Ghosts, Brayden’s girlfriend Ellie nearly ends up in the hospital after an overdose. Thankfully, she survives, but is enraged to learn that Brayden killed the drug dealer who sold her the drugs that nearly killed her. Brayden thought he did the right thing but Tariq told him it wouldn’t change anything and he was right because Ellie was so upset that she asked Brayden to leave the hospital. This revenge is not sweet.
Tariq meets with Monet to try to figure out a way to deal with Detective Carter. Tariq suggests that they give him what he wants, which is Norma’s head. They try to side with Norma so she can help them get rid of Carter, but their plan backfires. Norma rejected their proposals and, most importantly, revealed that she had accepted Kane’s proposal but called Monet her future “mom.” To say Monnet was livid would be an understatement, and the family and others were shocked by the unexpected discovery.
Davis provides Tariq and Monet with vital intel about Norma – she needs to work with the government to secure her aircraft business, which should be enough to give Carter the “leverage” he needs against Norma. To their dismay, Carter believes this is just the beginning and stresses they have more work to do. Meanwhile, Diana is still reeling from the attack and the loss of her child. As she and Tariq prepare to have sex in his dorm room, Diana tells Tarik they don’t need protection, and when he doesn’t agree, she leaves.
Carter depicted a fatal car accident by acting out Felicia’s death, held a toast in her honor at the police station, and even set up a fund for her son. Nico, a member of Carter’s task force and right-hand man, becomes suspicious of the way Carter is handling the recent deaths. He didn’t believe the accident story and began to question some of Carter’s motives.
Carter introduces more members of his “organization” to Drew and tells them to report directly to Drew from now on. Nico meets with Norma and Kane to demand more money, a six-figure sum, leading him to even consider betraying Carter. For a moment, it seemed like he was betraying Carter, but Nico walked right up to Carter, told him about the meeting, and reminded him of his loyalty. Carter tells Nicole to accept Norma’s proposal and meet with her alone again.
The episode ends with Norma bypassing their mutual enemies, Tariq and Monet, to offer Carter a partnership. With only two episodes left, the stakes are much higher. Will Norma and Carter destroy the Tejada family, Tariq, and anyone else who stands in their way? Or will Monáe and Tariq’s original plan to eliminate Carter succeed before it’s too late? With only two episodes left, I couldn’t be more excited for how this intense and thrilling drama unfolds.
