Presumed Innocent became an instant hit when it debuted on Apple TV+ this summer.
So it’s no surprise that the once limited series has now been renewed for a second season.
Of course, situations like this usually mean producers don’t have a roadmap for future episodes. In this case, they decided to take a sharp turn towards the unknown.
According to a new report from Deadline , Season 2 of Presumed Innocent will be ditching the source material that helped make the original such a success.
The episodes are based on Scott Turow’s novel of the same name.
However, Season 2 will be based on a different legal thriller, Joe Murray’s Anatomy of a Murder.
Unfortunately, this book did not achieve the same established readership as Toureau’s popular 1987 book.
In fact, no one has read Anatomy of a Murder – simply because it won’t be released until 2026.
Yes, not since the later seasons of Game of Thrones have we seen a popular series roll the dice by adapting a book that hasn’t come out yet.
It’s a pretty big gamble, and since this is Murray’s debut, the stakes are even higher.
But the book generated a huge buzz, and its premise sounds like a winner.
The story follows defense attorney Leila Reynolds as she takes on her first murder trial.
“She’s got more than she can handle, but the defendant only wants her – and to make matters worse, her husband is the prosecutor. Soon, Leila is struggling to hide her own secrets, too.
Needless to say, this sounds compelling.
Of course, Murray is not yet a veteran like the literary world’s beloved Latouro.
But the first adaptation of her work will come under the banner of the respected anthology show.
No premiere date or casting news has been announced, but Presumed Innocent will once again boast an A-list roster of producers, including Jake Gyllenhaal, David E. Kelly, and J.J. Abrams .
We will notify you as new production information becomes available.
