As with any major changes introduced in Pro Tools 2022.4, new customers no longer have the option to purchase a perpetual license, and the questions perpetual license holders will inevitably encounter are answers to the most common questions from users.

    Customer migration

These are big changes, and understandably the top question for current users will be “how does this affect me?” Here’s a breakdown:

    • Pro Tools Ultimate users with a perpetual license and current support plan – You will be automatically migrated to the current version of Pro Tools Ultimate at the same cost of $399

    • Pro Tools Ultimate users with perpetual licenses and expired support plans – You can choose to get the current version with a 12-month support plan for $749, or purchase an annual subscription for $999.

    • Pro Tools Ultimate users with an active subscription – You will be automatically migrated to Pro Tools Flex for the new cost of $999 per year or $99 per month.

    • Pro Tools users with a permanent license and current support plan – You will be automatically migrated to the current version of Pro Tools Studio at the same cost of $199

    • Pro Tools users with perpetual licenses and expired support plans – You can choose to get the current version with a 12-month support plan at the new discounted price of $349, or purchase an annual subscription for $299.

    • Pro Tools users with a valid subscription – You’ll be automatically migrated to Pro Tools Studio for $299 per year, $31.99 per month (as part of an annual commitment), or $39.99 per month.

    • Pro Tools first user – Pro Tools First has been discontinued.

What can a permanent license holder of “off-plan” do?

For those who have a perpetual Pro Tools license but no current support plan (so-called “unplanned perpetual licenses”), they can choose to do nothing and keep the current version, which they can purchase for $299/USD subscription.

For unplanned Pro Tools Ultimate users, the options are similar. They can do nothing and keep the current version, they can buy a subscription for $999 per year, or they can buy an upgrade and get a year of updates and support for $749. Purchasing a subscription does not affect your perpetual license.

What if I am a permanent license holder with a current support plan?

If your support plan covers your perpetual license, you can stay on your support plan at $199 for Pro Tools Studio (formerly Pro Tools) or $399 for Pro Tools Ultimate
