The main changes in the Pro Tools 2022.4 release are changes to the product lineup, licensing options for new customers, and the introduction of two new virtual instruments. However, despite this, there are some new features in the Pro Tools software itself. Many of these are a redistribution of functionality between the top-tier Ultimate/Flex product and the middle-tier Pro Tools Studio, with surround sound and advanced automation being particularly important additions to the middle-tier.
However, there’s one feature that’s surprising a lot of people and deserves a closer look because it affects one of the things we’ve long taken for granted – Pro Tools keyboard shortcuts can now be customized!
In this pair of videos, Julian takes a look at the new Keyboard Shortcuts window and discovers a lot of content that will be of interest to those who want to customize their workstations and those who just want to expand their knowledge of the familiar set of preset keyboard shortcuts.

In this video, brought to you with support from Avid, Julian first takes a look at the new window from the perspective of how it can help you, whether you want to create custom keystrokes or not. He demonstrates the power of the search tool, which allows you to search by keystroke or function and filter on modifier keys. The flagging system allows filtering by function, and when you actually create your custom keystrokes, potential conflicts with existing keystrokes are flagged and provide simple solutions.
