Legendary hip-hop producer Madlib has become one of thousands of people who lost their homes in the devastating fires raging in Los Angeles.
In a post shared with X on Monday (January 13), DJ Premier shared a link to a Donor Box to help Madlib and his family rebuild after the tragedy. “Another great legend @madlib completely lost his entire home and property in the California fires,” he wrote. “Donation boxes have been set up.”
The donation link for the nonprofit LOVElikeWWATER reads: “It is with a heavy heart that we ask for your support to help legendary producer Madlib and his family who lost their home, decades of music, and equipment in the devastating Los Angeles fires. You Donations of any amount, regardless of amount, will provide assistance to help Madlib meet immediate personal needs, including necessities such as clothing, temporary housing, transportation costs, and the tools Madlib needs to continue creating music that touches many people.
The catastrophic fire started last week in Pacific Palisades on the west side of Los Angeles and quickly spread to other areas including Altadena, Studio City and Runyon Canyon over the next few days.
As of the time of publication, the Palisades Fire has burned more than 23,000 acres and is only 14% contained, while the Eaton Fire on the East Side is 14,000 acres and is 33% contained.
There are many resources available for those who have lost their homes or need assistance in other ways. MusiCares and the Recording Academy launched Los Angeles Fire Relief to support music professionals affected by the crisis, pledging a total of $1 million to kick-start the effort. People who have worked in the music industry for more than five years may qualify for immediate assistance, including up to $1,500 in financial assistance and $500 in food stamps
