On December 7, Quavo was awarded the Humanitarian of the Year Award at the 8th Annual Variety Hitmakers Brunch held at Nya Studios in Hollywood.
The award recognizes the Grammy-nominated rapper and philanthropist for his transformative advocacy against gun violence, a mission he embraced following the tragic death of his nephew and Migos member Takeoff in 2022.
The award was presented by Greg Jackson, deputy director of the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, who praised Quavo for his tireless efforts to combat the pandemic through his Rocket Foundation. The foundation was established in November 2022 in honor of Takeoff to support community projects that address gun violence and has grown into a powerful movement for change in just two years.
Quavo’s work impacts the community at the local and federal levels. In March, the Rocket Foundation launched Sparks Grants, distributing $10,000 to each of 10 Atlanta organizations working to create safer communities. This summer, Quavo partnered with the Offender Alumni Association to conduct music education workshops for at-risk youth as part of the Rocket Camp program.
On the national stage, Quavo’s advocacy led to the creation of the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention.
He met with Vice President Kamala Harris during the Congressional Black Caucus legislative session in September 2023 and hosted the first Rocket Foundation Gun Violence Prevention Summit in Atlanta earlier this year. Quavo also joined Harris at a rally to promote the bipartisan Safer Communities Act, one of the most comprehensive federal gun control laws in U.S. history.
Rocket Foundation partners with organizations such as the Offender Alumni Association, HOPE Hustlers, Community Justice Action Fund and LIVE FREE to address gun violence through community-driven solutions.
In addition to his advocacy, Quavo remains a prominent figure in music and entertainment. As a key member of Migos, he has had multiple No. 1 hits on the Billboard charts and collaborated with top artists including Justin Bieber, Travis Scott and Post Malone.
His recent solo work includes tracks with Lana Del Rey, Peso Pluma, and Lenny Kravitz, showcasing his ability to blend genres while staying true to his Atlanta roots. Quavo’s versatility also extends to acting, having appeared in ” atlanta, black, and movies like this Praise this.
