Patina Miller has fully embodied everything about Raquel “Raq” Thomas and TV Fanatic since the start of the series and was lucky to talk to her about this season and what we see from Raq.

When we meet Lark this season, can you tell me what her headspace looks like? Where is everything that will happen to her in season 3?
Well, at the forefront of Season 4, their slate is clean, especially in the FBI and all of that. There was no need to see, I felt relieved, or she thought, watching her turn. Able to focus on her business.
She is trying to focus on the business, build it further, and really grow further with Stefano. But she also browsed in this new world Kanan was her business partner, getting involved in the relationship and figuring out what this new relationship looks like.
Apparently, she didn’t know that something was brewing a unique, rebirth. She doesn’t know yet.
But for Raq, she thinks it’s a clean slat that can focus on her business, get it together and try to keep doing it. Now, it’s not perfect because you’ll know her mom and all of these things.
Will she have to deal with it? It’s a lot about this family and now having to deal with things that maybe they don’t want to deal with, which will prove that this season is heavy for them.
You’re just talking about that, too, but we’ve seen the relationship between Raq and Kanan deteriorate in many different ways since the first season. Talk to me about their relationship from the beginning to the present and where we will see it this season.
Yes, so the evolution of this relationship has always been the two of them. They have been each other’s sun, moon, stars and all of that stuff. They have been locked.
Then, obviously, throughout the first season, you see Raquel trying to really inspire Kanan to walk away and do something for his life. She really tried to be that mom, probably mom. She is very young because she is browsing it too.
So together they are on this journey, his victory will be her winning in this way. Then, watching it will collapse with consequences – action has consequences for both of them.
Now, to go to this place with her son, he must have lost all his trust in her, you are fighting every time to regain some control with him and somehow become his life.
In season 4, she knows she no longer controls him. She knew that would be lost. She would never stop fighting for it because he was still her son, but she made him somehow because she didn’t want to shake it again. She made them exist in some way.
So being a business partner is one way she teaches him something and keeps watching him closely, but she doesn’t want to do much this season. She really just focused on doing her own business, trying to solve these problems and dealing with all of them.
Four seasons, you’ve played Raq, you’ve got into her head and her shoes. What do you think Raq has learned this season? Maybe you didn’t know her before?
What I learned about Lark this season is her, I knew that before, but what we saw this season is seeing her becoming a fulfilling person. She is still human, but she is still human. She is still a woman and does feel it.
People would keep saying, “Oh, she has no feelings.” Like, no, she just can’t sit in her feelings because she has a business to run and has a lot on the plate.
Watching her have to browse her feelings and vulnerability, and being with herself is new. Like, who is she when she has to be with herself and drive these big trauma and feels her mom disappointed?
What trauma has her mother caused in her life? Is this relationship better and what will she be like? So, she has to deal with a lot of these things this season.
Family drama, family issues and their patriarch. This is what I know about her, she is really a human being, a real human being.
What should audiences expect from this season? What can we expect?
Hey listen, I think we’ve proven a season and we should expect something unexpected. I think this will continue to be a crazy and crazy journey.
Unique is alive. We will see him on a mission and how he destroys the world of the Thomas family. There will always be explosions every season. This story, these characters and the world they are in will never be Lalalala. There are a lot of big things.
