2023 movies retirement plan It’s the story of a deadly grandfather who saves his adult baby girl. And his granddaughter. This piece of Nicolas Cage nonsense offers nothing truly new. Sadly, despite its heavy cast list, “The Retirement Plan” falls just short of cinematic heaven.

behind the scenes
Director Tim Brown writes an almost by-the-numbers cliché of the film here. The idea of retiring “agents” or assassins has been done before. For example, red, all dangerous characters reach at least “grandfather” age and retire. Bricklayer tells the story of a “former” CIA agent who may not be retired, but is just as good…
This has been done before and done better.
Brown seems to have a list:
1: Grandpa was ostracized because his previous job was far away from family life?
Check.
2: My daughter needs help from her dangerous grandfather?
Check.
3: The bad guy is incompetent and not very smart?
Check.
4: Grandpa killed a bunch of bad guys and won his family back?
Check.
and:
5: Can we get Nic Cage?
Check.
But it must be said that young Campbell’s Sarah does bring a breath of fresh air here. Well done, young lady.
Laughing in all the wrong places
It’s not fun to giggle at Cage’s wig for too long, but there are other laughs here. A person’s big and small games. The hilarious moment with Jackie Earle Haley standing behind Cage is played very directly. The man is obliterated by the actor’s stature and height that he prohibits.
Before long, Grandpa Cage was much shorter than Rick Fox. Both are indispensable. The fact that we don’t see Haley at all, except for his hands, is pretty interesting in itself. I don’t think Brown intended that. Casual laughter at best.
Other jokes meant to entertain fall a little flat. It felt bad to push the bad guy off the balcony in the final moments of the movie.
judgment
retirement planAlthough lacking in originality, it’s still surprisingly good. It’s fun. Mainly because of the cast list. With actors like this, a bad script can easily be overlooked. This is a result of 3.5 stars.
only.
It’s streaming on Hulu, or as I like to call it, the “movie graveyard.”
