Robert Downey Jr. Once again the biggest thing at this year’s Marvel panel at San Diego Comic-Con. Every year he steals the show during the Marvel Hall H presentation as Tony Stark, aka Iron Man from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
He’s been absent for some time since the epic’s release Avengers: Endgame (2019), Downey plays the Stark hero who sacrifices his life to save the world.
But now he’s back, this time playing the villainous Victor Von Doom, and he opened up about the road to getting here in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter Awards Podcast, where he opened up about the process Start time:
“About a year ago, because Feige and I have been in touch,” Downey revealed. “We’re friends. Favreau, Fitch and I stay in touch. I’m very close with the Russo brothers. We have other things to do.
“So there was a small group of fellow travelers, and I instinctively wanted to go to Bob Iger. I had an idea, outside of the world of the movie, how I could service what was going on in the park and all of their location-based energy.
“Susan and I were sitting with Fitch one time, and he said, ‘I’ve been thinking, if you came back…’ Susan was like, ‘Wait, wait, come back what?’ And then we both realized To, over time, it was another thing that disproved any doubt anyone had about that person.
“[He’s] A very sophisticated and creative thinker, his question is “How do we not go backwards?” How do we live up to expectations? How can we continue to exceed expectations? He mentioned Victor von Doom and I looked into it [the] The character, I was like, “Wow.” Later, he said, “Let’s get Victor von Doom right.” Let’s get it right.
“Then I said to Kevin, ‘Can I go talk to Bob Iger?’ and he asked, ‘About? “I said, ‘About everything.
“I went to Bob’s house and I don’t know how to describe the experience,” Downey continued. “I’ve had a lot of really cool experiences. We went to Egger’s place and sat down and started saying, ‘I really want to be…’ and he said, ‘I love this.’ I was like, ‘He loves it.’ “He said, “Come to the Imagineering Park. ”
“Fitch and I went to the Imagineering campus, and you want to talk about two people who are not easily surprised, let alone at the same time. I can’t say much about it, but what’s happening now is beyond my expectations.” .No wonder it is sacred to me.
“It’s also the only way I feel like I can provide some entertainment-seeking audience with something they might be eager to experience, while at the same time continuing to cultivate my interest in the future of entertainment.
“Where the hell can you go back? So this is a crazy, weird thing that’s happening, and if this were to happen, we would be remaking what many people say is the greatest movie of all time.
I can’t wait to see him in his new role! Downey was born for Marvel and I know he will give us another great show.
Avengers: Doomsday Scheduled to be released exclusively in theaters on May 1, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars May 7, 2027.
