Here’s another alternative design for outcrossing introduced to us by Fede Alvarez Alien: Romulus. This crazy design sports wings for the “offspring” which is a fun design addition.
The artwork was created by conceptual artist Dane Hallett, who shared the following note:
“Alien: Romulus…the adult descendant.
“At one point, the material Kai used on herself had such a genetic impact on her unborn child that it grew into this monster. When it eventually transformed into something else (which I’ll eventually share), it would Go into preview and then back to the descendants you see in the final cut.
“This is so nerve-wracking… Am I responsible for unwelcome mutations in an alien universe? I’m desperately trying to give this thing meaning, presence, and make it an ode to everything that came before…
“In the end, I’m grateful that we got what we got in the final cut, but that’s what could have been.
“The first frame represents the final version of the preview, while the last frame is my rough draft that was originally going to be attached to the Corbelan’s hull.
“Drink acid blood and listen to the ministry.
“cheers!!!”
Alvarez previously revealed that the studio initially had reservations about the creature, saying: “They did [push back] at the beginning [with regard to the Offspring]but not because they don’t like it.
“They were just like, ‘Is it too much? Do we really have to go there?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, since you said we shouldn’t, I know I will.’ “That’s exactly what we’re doing here. If a Disney-owned company gives you an Alien movie and they immediately say, “Okay, let’s make it,” then you’ve failed. So we really Pushed it to the limit and I’m glad we did it.
