    San Sebastian Film Festival kicks off with world premiere of Emmanuelle

    72nd San Sebastian Film Festival kicks off with world premiere of Audrey Diwan’s sexy film Emmanuelle kicked off the celebrations in Spain.

    The film stars Noémie Merlant (Portrait of Burning Woman), Naomi Watts (mulholland drive, Birdman), Will Sharp (white lotus) and Jamie Campbell Bower (stranger things), inspired by the erotic novels of Emmanuelle Arsan. The cast also includes Huang Chacha and Anthony Wong, who, in addition to Watts, all appeared briefly on stage before the show at the city’s Kurzal Theatre.

    The director’s project revolves around a woman named Emmanuelle (Melante) who travels to Hong Kong on a business trip to work at a luxury hotel group. In search of her lost happiness, she seeks awakening in her experiences with some of the hotel’s guests. One of them, Kai (Sharp), seems to be avoiding her. Divine said the script was conceived as an exploration of pornography in the post-#MeToo era.

It marks one of the dazzling line-ups the San Sebastian Film Festival has ever seen, with Cate Blanchett, Javier Bardem and Pedro Almodóvar on the Spanish coast’s agenda this week Honor.

    Almodóvar’s first English-language feature film, The room next door, The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival earlier this month and received a 17-minute standing ovation. The Spaniard dutifully thanked the audience, with film stars Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore standing by his side.

    St. Sebastian’s also scored some heavyweights ahead of awards season, including Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield we live in time Closing ceremony of the festival and screening of Edward Berger’s films secret meetingFrancis Ford Coppola Megacity and Sean Baker’s Anora.

    Neon has been announced to have acquired U.S. distribution rights. Emmanuelle EMI will release it in France on September 25th.
