She won’t write you a love song just because you asked her to, but Sara Bareilles will sing it for you in a 2024 New Year’s Eve special on PBS.
In an exclusively shared clip advertising billboard from Sara Bareilles: New Year’s Eve with the National Symphony Orchestra and friendsAt the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the singer belted out her 2007 breakthrough hit, along with a full orchestra and the help of a chorus from the crowd. Bareilles sits behind the piano, and strings, woodwinds, and brass bring a richer sound to this funky tune. waitress The composer sings: “If you were on the road/I wouldn’t write you a letter to stay/If you had to leave, I need a better reason/To write you a love song today.”
The song, which peaked at No. 4 on the 2008 Billboard Hot 100, is just one of several songs Bareilles will perform on the Kennedy Center stage for the special, which airs Tuesday (December 31) at 8 p.m. Premiering on PBS and PBS.org. As previewed in a trailer released on Christmas Eve, the showcase will include a program by the National Symphony Orchestra and special guests Rufus Wainwright, Emily King, David Ryan Harris, A night of music supported by Ben Folds, Madison Cunningham and Renee Elise Goldsberry. Additionally, the “King of Everything” musician will share comedic and emotional stories about her life and career.
“If I wasn’t creative and I wasn’t making music, then I wouldn’t be able to do what I’m supposed to be doing here,” Bareilles said in the 30-second video, which includes clips of the star performing her 2013’s hit song “Brave.”
In addition to celebrating the New Year, Bareilles is also celebrating the New Year in 2024 for interesting thingsThe upcoming Broadway adaptation of Meg Wurlitzer’s novel of the same name. Earlier this year, Season 3 Girls 5 Eva — the singer stars alongside Goldsberry, Busy Philipps and Paula Pell — airs on Netflix.
