The Scrubs revival is close to getting the green light from ABC with major hurdles cleared.
“The Anatomy” is set to pick up where the ABC show left off.
Bill Lawrence’s hospital-set comedy is being revived and is currently in production exclusively at ABC, where it will air its final two of its nine seasons (after seven seasons on NBC).
The main obstacle to The Anatomy’s return is Lawrence’s current exclusive overall deal with Warner Bros. Television, home of EPs Bad Monkeys, Shrink, and Ted Russo. Sources say 20th, which is owned by the same Disney company as ABC, has struck a deal with Warner Bros. to allow Lawrence to helm the new series (though he will no longer be showrunner if the project moves forward).
The focus now turns to signing deals with the Scrubs’ OG stars, most notably Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke and Donald Faison. An insider stressed that there are currently no deals for returning cast members.
