Here we are. SEAL Team Season 7 Episode 9 is the penultimate hour, setting the stage for the series’ swan song. Did it get the job done?
I think so.
Saying goodbye to a team as close-knit as Bravo is not easy. Looking back on the entire series, Team Bravo has been and remains the main attraction. They feel like family.
But the family is coming to an end, at least for now. What happens next will take us out of the equation, so it all depends on how SEAL Team ends.
Please note that I have already seen the ending, so this review will be a little different. I won’t speculate because I don’t want to reveal anything. For those of us who spend so much time with Bravo, this is the last thing I want to see.
SEAL Team Season 7 Episode 9 started out just as we expected, with everyone wondering what the hell Ross Curtis was doing during an operation.
He was not engaged in any sanctioned business, which hit the team hard.
Curtis and Nazario seem to go back many years. No wonder he is such a miserable POS. How can you cooperate with your enemy after spending a lifetime defending your country from them?
Sonny said it best. “Never trust a ginger.” That’s all I can say because I’ve been a ginger for years! 🤣
As you might expect, this hits Jason particularly hard. This guy they trusted turned on the fentanyl tap. Timing is everything, and Jason’s reaction makes it clear that the time has come for this group of drug dealers.
He tells us exactly who he is – a man so stained by war that he can never escape.
— Jason Hayes
As we discussed in SEAL Team Season 7 Episode 8, they let this guy get into their heads, especially Jason. He saw Curtis as a role model, someone who had been through the same pain as he was. If he couldn’t get out, why could Jason get out?
Finally, as before, Ray realizes there’s more to Jason’s story and wonders if it’s Curtis who’s redecorating the inside of his brain. This prompts Jason to tell Ray about the firebox and his first kill.
Jason needs to do what he envies Ray for doing – clean up his kill and settle his debts so he can leave in good health. With one episode left on his way to kill a fellow frogman, it’s hard to imagine how he’s going to do it.
You know, I thought dying on the battlefield was the worst thing that could have happened to me. You know, dead people have no shame.
— Jason Hayes
One of the most important aspects of the upcoming finale is wrapping up Jason’s story. Talk of death on the battlefield suggests that things could have gone either way.
Another sign of the family’s breakdown comes from Stella. Although she and Sonny rarely appeared on screen together in SEAL Team Season 7, they were still present in each other’s lives.
So Sonny was shocked that she had found a new direction. She needed to get out of her space with Clay, but Sonny assured Clay that he would take care of his family.
The timing was terrible for Sonny, who had just “lost” Leanne and now Stella and Brian.
Still, he was a little unhappy with Lisa’s use of his trident. On the one hand, he says he’ll take a bullet for her, but on the other, he reminds her that the only thing he’s holding on to is holding on to his trident.
Didn’t he realize how agitated she was throughout the entire operation? Her future was as important to her as his future was to him. When you look at it from both a male and female perspective, you see that she accomplished more than his naval career.
These two things will keep us guessing to the end.
Of course, Sonny wasn’t the only one feeling pain on SEAL Team Season 7 Episode 9.
It was just one more thing Jason had to worry about when his soon-to-be son-in-law tore his meniscus during training.
Being a family man away from home is never easy, but it becomes even more difficult as you get older and realize that time is not forever.
It took us a full season to get here, but SEAL Team Season 7 Episode 9 continues the tradition of action we crave, even if it almost blows them away.
Omar: Jason, if you do something like this again, I will kill you myself, man.
Drew: Guts but no brains, Master Chief.
Jason: This GPS will tell us something.
Ray: All balls and some brains.
Sonny: This is the Bravo One we know and love.
Drew didn’t like it when Jason said one thing and did another, but Jason knew he carried an Echo, just like Jason carried the names of the 40 people he killed on his phone. Um, is this healthy?
Has this tidbit been revealed before? I can’t imagine Jason sharing this with many people. If officers knew how tightly he controlled every kill, they might (rightfully) question his readiness for the job.
This guilt leaves a hole in your soul, which is the essence of what Jason has been struggling with all season.
For Ray’s last act, it’s non-stop action and excitement, and a certain amount of emotional turmoil. If he was worried about goodbyes, this was the one he hoped for, assuming they all made it out alive.
Sonny: What a terrible retirement party.
Ray: A piece of cake would be nice.
SEAL Team Season 7 Episode 9 was full of surprises.
In the midst of all this, in their final act as a Bravo team, Jason is called in to assassinate Curtis.
I imagine all the assassins acted alone, probably for good reason. But this is a military-sanctioned hit, so it doesn’t make sense to ask Jason to leave his team behind to do it.
Ray: It seemed wrong, we broke up on the last move.
Jason: Come on, man. If Hall and Oates can’t get together, what chance do we have, Ray, right?
Splitting the team up during Ray’s last act was particularly brutal, but Jason attributes it to everyone seeing through him and seeing who he believed he was – a killer with blood on his hands, trying to It’s impossible to kill a fellow frogman.
Look, Ray. This is me. understand? That’s why they chose me to pull the trigger. I need you to look at your teammates back one last time, okay? Get them home safely.
— Jason Hayes
But then, Drew backed out of surgery and joined Jason. Is this kind of thing allowed? Jason received direct orders to take down Curtis. If the public gets word of the assassination, will Drew be responsible?
Drew didn’t care if he thought about it.
He tried not to care about Bravo, but now he does. He wouldn’t let Jason go into the darkness alone without protection. Not again.
To be honest, I really didn’t like Drew’s inclusion or how his backstory unfolded, but having Jason’s support and respect for him as a leader was effective. It was just what they both needed.
Drew could look up to him when he looked down on himself so much. Jason trusted Drew when he felt he was letting his team down. It all makes sense now, even though things were tough at the start of the season.
In the tradition of some of my favorite parts of this explosive series, SEAL Team Season 7 Episode 9 faded to black without answers.
Nazario got caught, so maybe that means the rest of the team will work with him and Drew to take out Curtis.
It will be difficult because the location is a bit remote, but the benefits of seeing them together will be so huge that they will outweigh the negatives.
All in all, SEAL Team Season 7 Episode 9 did a great job of setting up the finale.
There are very few gripping moments. The emotion is as intense as the action, and the locations where they were filmed are as real as the places where they fought.
I’ll probably talk to showrunners Spencer Hudnut and David Boreanaz before the finale. If you have burning questions, please let me know in the comments.
But more importantly, tell me your best guess at the ending. Is the setting of “Sea and Hills” well done?
