    Shazam has identified songs more than 100 billion times since its launch

    Shazam, Apple’s music recognition app, has announced a milestone as it has been recognized more than 100 billion times since its launch.

    Shazam points out that this number is roughly equivalent to 12 songs Recognized for everyone on the planet.

    In the long term, Shazam says, reaching that number would require individuals using Shazam to identify one song per second. 3,168 for several years in a row.

    Shazam’s journey began in 2002 as a messaging service in the UK. Initially, music fans will dial 2580, raise their mobile phones to identify the music, and receive detailed information about the songs via text messages. The platform’s popularity soared with its launch on the App Store in 2008 and the launch of an iOS app, bringing music recognition technology to millions of users.

    By the summer of 2011, Shazam had realized 1 billion song. After being acquired by Apple in 2018, $400 million, Shazam is starting to give users more ways to discover music.

    Recent technological advancements further enhance the Shazam experience, including music recognition on iOS and macOS, a Shazam widget on the watchOS Smart Stack, integration with iPhone and Apple Watch action buttons, and Wear OS updates for direct watch-based song recognition and quickly identify settings tiles on Android devices.

    Last year, Shazam launched a personalized in-app concert discovery hub called “concert”, which uses users’ Shazam history to provide curated activity recommendations. In June 2023, Shazam launched a new feature that allows users to identify TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and other applications by turning on the “Auto-Shazam” function songs on the program.
