Rossif Sutherland and Kristin Kreuk have previously hinted that Carl and Cassandra’s relationship will be a major highlight of the series.
Most crime procedurals don’t feature prominent couples, so we were surprised to see how much screen time they got in the series premiere.
The first episode of Small Town Murders Season 1 introduces the first book in the series.
Since the second episode appears to be an adaptation of the fourth book, “Fall from Grace,” Carl and Cassandra may be dating longer than expected.
The promo teases that they are considering going public with their relationship. Initially, it seemed like it was too soon since they had only been dating for a few weeks.
However, it sounds like there was a time jump, so they may have fallen into more of a routine.
Since Cassandra has been single for so long, one of her biggest fears is that she might lose her identity and become just the girlfriend of the police chief.
She also worried that their friends would only ask her questions about the latest case. This is usually fun because she often stumbles upon information.
The promo shows them dancing at a reunion celebration. They looked beautiful, like they were reliving prom. Cassandra still looks like the girl next door in a stunning red gown, while Carl looks dapper in a stylish suit.
Will their arrival spark gossip, or is everyone too concerned about the murder to care?
Since school dances often bring their own mix of drama, Cassandra may soon learn that dating a cop can bring its own problems, like a formal date not going as planned.
Will this become a serious obstacle or bring the two closer?
Small Town Murder Season 1 Episode 2 The crew works together to catch the murderer
When some of Cassandra’s former classmates discover a body on the docks during a party weekend, Det. Carl Ahlberg needs your help.
In Small Town Murders Season 1 Episode 1, only Sgt. Corporals Sid Sokolowski and Edwina Yen help out on the case, as it’s often difficult to give supporting characters equal time in pilots.
However, newbies like Officers Andy Kendrick and Isabella will have to do more in this investigation, such as determining the scope of the suspect’s reunion, interviewing witnesses, and gathering evidence.
Like Cassandra, Isabella (Savona Spragkin) grew up in Gibson, so she may have more knowledge about the suspects and motives.
She may know who she dated or had issues with a few years ago, which may be helpful.
We’re excited to see Isabella, Corporal Edwina Yen, and Andy Kendrick develop more as characters and become friends. Since this episode focuses so much on the reunion, adding some witty scenes was ideal.
In a small town, everyone is busy with their own business. If someone leaks the right information about Carl and his team, it could help solve the case.
The format of “Little Murders” is such that most episodes focus on a novel, so there won’t be much continuity from week to week other than developing Carl and Cassandra’s relationship.
