Mattel has set its latest toy themes through live-action projects based on View-Master.
Mattel Films will team up with Todd Black’s The Escape Artist on the project set at Sony Pictures. The feature is described as a “four-quadrant family adventure movie” and is based on a stereoscopic viewing device that allows users to collect 3D reels with themed images. It was first introduced to the public in 1939.
Black, Escape Artist’s Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch and Tony Shaw will produce. Kevin McKeon and Arturo Thur de Koós will executive produce the film for Mattel Films.
“View-Master has long been a window into the wonders of the world, igniting the imaginations of children and adults alike,” said Black. “Partnering with Robbie Brenner and Mattel Films gives us the opportunity to honor that legacy while creating an entirely new adventure for today’s audiences.”
MGM previously set up View-Master Films in 2019.

Mattel is teaming up with Escape Artists for its upcoming master of the universe Live action drama. After years of development, the project bounced around multiple studios before landing at Amazon-MGM starring Nicholas Galitzin. Mattel’s other upcoming projects include bob the builder By Anthony Ramos and matchbox cars movie from extraction Directed by Sam Hargrave.
