Members of Soundgarden will take to the stage next week as part of a benefit concert in their hometown of Seattle.
The show will take place on December 14th at Seattle’s Showbox and will be titled Nudedragons by guitarist Kim Thayil, drummer Matt Cameron and bassist Ben Shepherd. The moniker, an anagram of the band’s more famous name, was also adopted by Soundgarden in 2010 when they played their first live show since 1997 at the same venue.
Shaina Shepherd will perform vocal duties during the band’s “brief encore performance.”
The upcoming live performance is part of SMooCH, an annual event that raises funds for the Seattle Children’s Hospital Pro Bono Care Fund. Previous SMooCH events have invited artists such as Modest Mouse, The Afghan Whigs, Jason, Isbell, and Angel Olsen.
In addition to the Nudedragons, this year’s SMooCH lineup also includes Sebadoh, Built To Spill’s Doug Martsch, and Guns N’ Roses’ Duff McKagan.
Soundgarden was originally founded in 1984 and was initially active until 1997, in the process gaining traction with titles such as super unknownIt topped the Billboard 200 chart upon its release in 1994.
Working on various side projects for its members during this period, Soundgarden reconvened in 2010 and remained active until the death of frontman Chris Cornell in 2017. Uncertainty.
Since then, members of the group have reunited for several shows, including a 2019 tribute show for Cornell University called ” I am the highwaywhich features guest vocalists including Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless and Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters.
After Hawkins passed away in 2022, Thayil and Cameron performed another tribute show alongside Momsen and members of Nirvana the Foo Fighters.
