This will be a family affair in Elsbeth’s next episode. That’s great news for Carrie Preston, because who doesn’t love working with a spouse, especially on a show as entertaining as Elsbeth?
that’s right. Everyone’s favorite madman from Wicked, Michael Emerson, is in court wearing his cold, dead smile. CBS really likes to keep everything from the Paramount family.
Preston and Emerson are known for their roles in shows like Elsbeth and Wicked, which are not only regulars on Paramount+ but come from the same showrunners hand.
When I call this episode a family affair, I’m not kidding. Both shows have producers and husband-and-wife team Robert and Michelle King working behind the scenes.
So with two married couples in front of and behind the camera, there’s bound to be plenty of interesting chemistry. Plus, don’t you just love it when real-life couples serve as each other’s foils?
Today is Elsbeth’s “Bring Your Spouse to Work” Day
It’s certainly not unheard of for couples to act together in the entertainment industry. Many times, actors begin to develop relationships while working on a project together.
While I could go and find iconic actors who fit the bill, we’d be here all day, and I’m not trying to take away Wikipedia’s job. Suffice it to say, a chemical reaction almost always happens.
For example, fans of the Hulu series Tell Me Lies can watch real-life couple Jackson White and Grace Van Patten tear each other apart in every episode.
It is currently a trend for couples to play opposite each other in any project they star in.
Regardless, this is exactly what audiences have come to expect from “An Angry Woman.”
Michael Emerson transferred his years of fear of evil to Elsbeth
The official synopsis for Elsbeth Season 2, Episode 7 reads: “When Elsbeth is called to serve on a jury, she finally becomes a true New Yorker.
“She faces a murder trial, where she will face an unusually difficult judge, Milton Crawford (Michael Emerson), who will prove to be a formidable opponent.
Yes, right there. Interestingly, the tension between the characters wasn’t shown in the promo, so thank goodness for the episode’s depiction.
During the airing of Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 10, Carry Preston discussed the possibility of another season with TVLine. During the interview, her husband became a hot topic on the show.
While Preston expressed a desire for Emerson to stand up to the type he’s usually typecast as, a monster, the man knows where his strengths lie.
Michael is one of the most exciting, infuriating, and fascinating characters in the Paramount+ series Wicked. If you haven’t seen the show, I won’t spoil it. What I want to say is that the details determine success or failure.
Interestingly, the actor’s debut in both series began in the courtroom, albeit in very different roles. Still, he was pretty good at obstructing the law.
Elsbeth keeps everything as close to home as possible
The description specifies that Emerson’s character Milton will be Elsbeth’s “powerful adversary.” So, he might stick around for a few episodes.
The real question, however, is why a judge would be so hostile to a juror, let alone an attorney working with the NYPD. Shouldn’t they be on the same side?
Is it a matter of not liking lawyers? Because if that’s the case, he chose the wrong career. Or does he have a past with Elsbeth that he has yet to overcome?
Maybe they dated and she hallucinated about him? Probably not, because as we learned in Elsbeth Season 2 Episode 6, Elsbeth is catnip to firefighters. Lucky girl.
We finally get to see Elsbeth’s son Teddy make his first appearance in The Good Wife universe. Teddy is played by Ben Levi Ross, best known for his stage role in Dear Evan Hansen, where he was Evan’s understudy.
While he’s not mentioned in the description, promos, or photos of “An Angry Woman,” it would be nice if viewers could see at least one scene of Elsbeth and her son spending time together.
Granted, if Elsbeth was to undertake jury duty, the scene would have to be quick.
Elsbeth may have written more stories than it had time to
In a promo for Elsbeth Season 2 Episode 7, the first thing viewers hear is a woman telling Elsbeth: “They say she snuck into her neighbor’s apartment and beat him to death. “
Not to point out a strange development, but this would be the fourth female killer in a row, even though she might be innocent. Is this weird?
The first three episodes all featured male killers, while every episode since episode 4 of season 2 has had a female killer. These episodes are hilarious; who would notice? This TV fanatic is just that.
This time, though, the killer may actually be innocent, as Elsbeth says in the promo: “She’s being kidnapped. What I don’t understand is why.
So not only will Elsbeth not technically be working on the case, but she’ll be returning to her lawyering roots in trying to find a way to exonerate the defendant.
Sadly, this will be Elsbeth’s last episode before taking a bit of a break over the New Year. Whatever this episode brings to viewers, it’s likely to set the stage for what’s to come in the second half of Elsbeth’s second season.
Hopefully, while all of this is focused on Kelly Preston and her husband, we still get to see some scenes with the lovable Officer Kaya and the more comedic Captain Wagner as of late.
Seriously, what happened to Lieutenant Connor? This character only appears when the good captain is ashamed of his popularity.
Then, he had a bullshit encounter with Kaya in the first episode of Elsbeth Season 2, which almost derailed Kaya’s plans to become a detective.
In Gold, Frankincense and Murder, however, it’s all good news regarding her detective exam.
Between Connor, Kaya, and the Captain, there are enough subplots to warrant a spinoff, but before we get to that, let’s get over the holidays. This would make it the third spin-off in the series.
Then again, CBS likes to expand almost any show that falls under it. From NCIS to the FBI, the network is a veritable playground for expansion.
All in all, this episode will take the story in a new direction with the introduction of the character of Emerson. But is this wise, considering there are so many other arcs hanging in the balance?
Of course, I’m talking about Chicago’s very public divorce, and Elsbeth is still embroiled in it.
At this point, all we can do is sit back and enjoy this incredibly entertaining and contrived series and all of its absurdity and heartwarming fun.
