Matlock’s writers won’t let Kathy Bate’s Madeleine breathe. They would eventually give the sweet old lady a heart attack before she had a chance to get justice for her daughter.
First there was the incident at the end of Claws when someone recognized Marty, and now it looks like her heart is about to be torn apart by a whirlwind of emotions.
The promo for Matlock Season 1 Episode 6 clearly lays out the details of the case the team will be working on, which is bad enough to show Olympia’s genuinely empathetic side.
Olympia is one of those characters that makes you nervous when she suddenly becomes too good. My first thought was: “Oh my god, how long do I have?”
One thing is for sure: Matlock’s authors don’t even try to hide the correlation between the case-of-the-week format and Marty’s personal experience.
It makes no sense now that this incredible show has been picked up for another fantastic season.
You know it’s bad when Olympia suggests you take a mental health day
If you’ve been following the reviews for Matlock Season 1, then you’re well aware of the ongoing discussion that each episode has a case that relates to Marty on a personal level.
Due to the nature of the first cases, this was subtle at first and not entirely obvious.
The first episode of Matlock’s first season tells the story of a man getting justice after spending most of his life in prison for a crime he didn’t commit.
Sure, Marty gets in touch with a key witness, but the core of the case almost exclusively involves a larger social issue. This time, though, the connection is clear.
At the end of the promo, Olympia tells Marty, “This is a case about losing a child. You can put that aside. When Olympia suggests you take a mental health day, you know it’s bad.”
This was very advantageous to Marty, because it allowed her to pretend she was busy with file work and focused on overthrowing Jacobs and Moore’s plan.
Alas, that’s not the case, because in the promo, Marty (Kathy Bates) can be heard responding to Olympia: “I want to help my parents get justice.”
Oh, that, Marty. Her heart was too big to say no, dammit.
Matlock must have love in his head
The official synopsis for Matlock Season 1, Episode 6 reads: “Olympia and Julian conduct their second investigation into a tragic death caused by contaminated infant formula.
“Their past investigative work provides a glimpse into what led to their divorce. Additionally, the intense pressure Marty was under caused her to consider quitting her job.
The hands behind Matlock put everything they had into this episode, including the damn kitchen sink. I’d be surprised if they fit Sarah and Kia’s budding flirt boat.
Does Marty work at a law firm or a singles bar? There is love in everyone’s mind. However, I’ve been saying since Matlock Season 1 Episode 3 that we need to keep an eye on Julian.
The character was so sweet and charming for Olympia, and we finally get to know what caused their marriage to fall apart—and maybe even how Olympia and Ilya’s romance began.
Should Olympia try to make it work with Julian? They have children and property together. They also proved that there was nothing but love between them.
At the same time, a split may be inevitable. Maybe everything that happened just accelerated the ending. So, should Olympia try to forge a new future with Elijah?
No matter what, someone is not going to be happy. However, if I were a betting man, I’d put my money on Marty being the first to cry in “Sixteen Steps.”
Madeleine Matlock can’t get away from these cases
The most important part of the description of Matlock Season 1 Episode 6 is inescapable. When infant formula is contaminated, a poor baby drinks the formula.
This will be Marty’s most exciting episode so far. How could it not be? It’s about parents seeking justice for the children they’ve lost. It could also be Marty suing the formula company.
Viewers probably won’t forget Madeleine’s little outburst in Matlock Season 1 Episode 5 when she defended Katya to the Olympia.
Marty actually cried when she explained that Katya was someone’s daughter and should be treated with dignity and respect. How on earth is she going to deal with a case so similar to her own?
On top of that, the Sixteen Steps description also mentions that Madeleine considered quitting because of stress. Absolutely not.
Hopefully viewers won’t soon forget the many twists and turns Matlock loves to throw at viewers
In a previous review, I mentioned that a septuagenarian can only take so much, and it looks like the hands behind Matlock agree.
Honestly, there’s nothing to worry about since the series has just been renewed. Technically, though, that doesn’t mean Matty needs to work at Jacobs & Moore.
In Matlock Season 1 Episode 4, the relationship between Edwin and Madeleine becomes intense as their plans affect their personal lives.
Giving Alfie a stable childhood was one thing, but now Marty may be facing an identity blow.
At the end of “Claws”, Marty was matched with “Senior Sweeties” in the cover, but was thought to be Madeline Kingston. If the promotion is any indication, it could be more serious than expected.
The first words heard in the promo are Marty saying, “Edwin, he really found me.” Olympia then asks, “Who found you?” Marty is overheard saying After the phone call.
Where in the episode this happened is anyone’s guess. If you read Matlock Season 1 Episode 4 spoilers, we discussed how Olympia refers to Jacobs and Moore as a “den of vipers.”
After watching the episode, we know the clip is from the end of the episode. In this case, we might see the same thing happen with Marty and Olympia.
Will Olympia be the first to discover Marty’s secret? My money is on Bill (David Del Rio) and Sarah (Leah Lewis). Gosh, I even thought Mrs. B might be the one.
We’ll have plenty of time to think about it, as Matlock will take a break after this episode and return in December.
If this hiatus is similar to the one that followed the first episode of Matlock season 1, viewers may have another twist to ponder while we wait for the incredible series to return.
