NCIS: Origins Season 1 Episode 5 is not relaxing or calming.
Longtime fans of the series are probably well aware of Mike’s gun-happy status, or “gun-slinger” as he’s sometimes called. Get ready to fill a bucket.
Since the beginning of NCIS: Origins, the main focus has been on Gibbs and his struggle with the loss of his family. We have seen how the weight takes its toll on him and destroys his soul.
However, Gibbs isn’t the only NCIS character to have a younger, brighter version of himself. Then again, not every viewer was that fond of Gibbs’ casting.
Austin Stowell is a talented actor, but is he the right man for the job?
Many of you have been outspoken in saying that Austin Stowell was not the right person to play young Mark Harmon. It’s hard for me to choose a side.
Sure, it’s nice when a younger version looks like another actor, but when it comes to creating a quality story, that’s not as important as other factors.
Ultimately, it comes down to which actor can do the character justice. Either way, Austin Stowell’s performance is outstanding.
For a character like Gibbs, he displays so much emotion with just the right level of subtlety. However, anyone who has seen the previous episode will have a deeper understanding of the character.
We see the moment he receives the news that his family has been murdered, and how close he comes to ending it all.
The impact of this scene shows the moment Gibbs broke down and how he managed to live in that dark place for so long. But we finally see Gibbs come to the light of day when he accepts Franks’ dinner invitation.
This small gesture would have profound consequences for Gibbs’ future, as we know he married three more times and a fourth is about to happen.
I guess Mike’s enthusiasm and enthusiasm rubbed off on Gibbs. Then again, Franks might have benefited from the occasional reference to Gibbs’s book.
Mike Franks is the most relatable and realistic character on NCIS: Origins
Audiences love Mike Franks because he is unapologetically himself. We like a character who tells the truth and has a mustache. Tom Selleck, anyone?
A true character trait of Franks was his passion and enthusiasm for his work and life.
From the moment he nearly punched a man in a phone booth in the NCIS: Origins premiere to his affectionate moments with his wife in intimate scenes, Franks is a man who’s able to stay in touch with his emotions, no matter what. Do you want to.
In a promo for NCIS: Origins Season 1 Episode 5, Franks at one point yells at an inmate and has to be stopped. It’s definitely dramatic, but does it illustrate a larger issue?
Franks was a great man known for his loyalty and guidance. Yet, when will we stop making excuses for outbursts and extreme reactions?
Working at the National Intelligence Agency, there are always some intense cases that bring a lot of emotions to the surface. But part of the job is knowing how to deal with those feelings to get the job done.
There is no black and white in the world, so as long as the case is finally solved, can Franks be furious? This makes Mike the most relatable and realistic character in the series.
Beneath Mike’s gray exterior lies more than meets the eye
The official synopsis for NCIS: Origins Season 1, Episode 5 reads: “With the countdown to execution, Franks races to find the location of the missing body from a death row inmate and fulfill his promise before time runs out. The promise made by the victim’s sister.
NCIS: Origins is working hard to up the stakes with each episode. I think the tension was already there in NCIS: Origins Season 1 Episode 3 when Gibbs trapped Prado in the elevator.
We learn from the description of the next episode that Franks promised the victim’s sister to bring the body back. It’s like Franks. Hidden beneath the gray exterior is a huge, soft fur.
However, this relates to what I mentioned above. Franks crosses the line in the promo, trying to find the bodies of prisoners before they are executed. It could be me, but Franks’ reaction seems a bit extreme.
I could understand if the NIS was trying to find a living person, but a missing body is a little different. Now, if a victim’s family had such a reaction, it would not only be understandable, but also expected.
The promo shows that Mike (Kyle Schmid) is much more emotionally invested in the case than the average person, which is something the show doesn’t seem to make clear.
So while his reaction was a bit extreme, it perfectly reflected how the victim’s family might have felt.
Finally, this shows that Mike Franks is the core character of “NCIS: Origins”. You already know he gets information from prisoners. People like Franks would go to any length to help the helpless.
Gosh, I wonder where have we seen similar traits and qualities in other characters?
‘NCIS: Origins’ Has an Amazing Cast of Characters, but the Series Hasn’t Made the Most of It
Gibbs is definitely on his way to becoming Franks 2.0, but that’s great because Mike is where Leroy gets some of his best personality traits.
The most exciting thing about the promo is that no one seems worried about Gibbs. I’m not going to lie; it would be nice to take a break from his tragedy.
Of course, Gibbs’ trauma is the backbone of the series, but it would be refreshing to further explore other series characters.
In NCIS: Origins Season 1 Episode 4, viewers saw a lot of Mary Jo and her ridiculously high heels. We watched her reveal her big heart to a teary-eyed Gibbs.
We’ve even seen enough scenes with Randy to fully understand the character’s personality and moral standing.
When Gibbs traps Prado in an elevator, watching him go back and forth trying to decide whether to help or report Gibbs shows that he’s more interested in justice than following protocol.
You know who we actually know nothing about? Agent Lara Dominguez. Despite the character’s outspoken appearance in every episode, we learn next to nothing about her.
Sure, she’s smart, talented, and doesn’t take crap from anyone, but what’s her story? How did she join the National Intelligence Service? How does she affect Gibbs’ future?
We’re still a few episodes into the middle of NCIS: Origins’ first season, and we still don’t know how “her story” is.
Hopefully the series will start connecting the dots soon. Now, check out the promo for CBS’ NCIS: Origins Season 1, Episode 5 below!
Do you think Franks can be a bit hot-headed at times?
What do you think Lara has to do with Gibbs’ future?
