Stevie Nicks’ The Lighthouse tops this week’s new music polls.
Music fans vote in a poll released on Friday (September 27) advertising billboardselected the rock icon’s fresh song as their favorite new music release of the past week.
The polls were tight, but Nicks’ new song won nearly 72% of the vote. This week, voters chose The Lighthouse over hot new music from Lady Gaga, The Weeknd and Rosalía starring Playboi Carti and Ralphie Choo.
“The Lighthouse,” Nicks said when the song was released on September 27, “is probably the most important thing I’ve ever done.”
“I’ve got my scars, you’ve got yours/Don’t let them take away your power,” she sings with masterful restraint, the verse leading into a vibrant chorus that urges listeners to “see the future and angry”.
“I wrote this song a few months after Roe v. Wade was overturned,” Nicks wrote in an Instagram post. “It seemed like overnight people were saying ‘What can we do as a collective force about this…’ For me, it was writing a song.”
She continued: “It took a while because I was on the road. Then one morning I was watching the news on TV and a newscaster said something that felt like he was speaking to me – explaining Roe v. What it meant to lose the Wade case. I wrote this song the next morning and recorded it that night, September 6, 2022. I often said to myself: ‘This is probably what I did. The most important thing is to stand up for American women and their daughters and granddaughters and the men who love them.
“It’s a national anthem,” Nix said.
One of the new music tracks behind The Lighthouse in this week’s poll is a song by Lady Gaga clown project, received nearly 18% of the votes, while The Weeknd and Playboi Carti’s new collaboration “Timeless” received 3% of the votes.
