introduce:
The show returns for its final season with a two-hour premiere (made up of the show’s first two episodes) that picks up on the events of the third season finale.
Part 1:
The first part of the show’s season premiere was written by Brett Fletcher and Todd Helbing and directed by Gregory Smith. When the premiere begins, with both Superman and General Lane missing and Lex Luthor jubilant in Smallville, celebrating his victory, Lex has a level of almost unhinged confidence that makes him a Dangerous villain. Michael Cudlitz did a great job this season portraying a villain that audiences loved to hate.
flashback
The first part of the season premiere featured flashbacks that fleshed out Clark and Lois’ relationship, including the reveal that Clark was only ever intimate with Lois. We also get more flashbacks to Clark and Lois during the boy’s birth. I don’t think any other Superman media has ever done such an in-depth look at the couple Clark and Lois.
We also see another flashback between Lois and Lex. Louis may be wrong about the specific crimes Lex committed, but Lex is a very bad person who really needs to be put away. I love that Lex is both Lois Lane’s nemesis and Superman’s nemesis in this series, it’s an interesting idea that I’ve never seen before and it makes sense since both characters are humans so they could. Even though Lex knew he couldn’t fight Superman, he created something powerful enough to do the job for him and wiped out Lois’s most powerful protector, but they were on a more even footing than Superman and Clark. fight against each other in a competitive environment. One of the themes of the first part of the premiere is Lex’s alienation from Lois and his attempts to destroy her mentally and emotionally by going after the people who protect her and whom she loves. Lex didn’t want to hurt Lois physically, but he wanted her to suffer the same pain he suffered in prison.

Lex uses Ryan’s girlfriend Gretchen (who has been working for Lex) to kidnap Louis’ father and continue his crusade against Louis. General Lane is missing for most of the first part as Jordan is unable to find his grandfather. Thankfully, Jordan was able to use his super hearing to hear his grandfather’s voice after a long day of searching for General Lane before Lex buried him alive.
superman
We see a brutal battle between Superman and Doomsday throughout the episode. To me, what CW shows like Stargirl, Superman, and Lois were able to achieve with a TV budget is still impressive, and I’m more impressed than the one in the Batman v Superman movie. Prefer this Superman vs. Doomsday fight. We see Superman go through a battle with Doomsday and ultimately lose the battle with the monster. Part 1 ends with Doomsday dumping Superman’s body into the Smallville town square as Jordan, Jon, and Lois arrive speeding from the Kent farm. Lois is calm until she sees Doomsday take Clark’s heart and we see the boy’s breakdown. This scene is enough to illustrate how terrifying Doomsday is as a villain.
The fallout from The Death of Superman also means Jordan may be the only active superhero on Earth right now, and we don’t know where Tugger is (a character I wish had done more throughout the show). It would make narrative sense for Tugger and Jordan to step up and fill the void left by Superman with Steele and Natalie. For comic book fans, this season will adapt the famous “The Death of Superman” storyline, which involves Doomsday. Many animated films, the live-action “Batman v Superman” film and the 2000 TV series “Smallville” have adapted this plot. This is one of the most adapted Superman storylines, so it will be interesting to see how different this adaptation will be from what we’ve seen before.
Part 2:
The second installment of the series’ premiere was written by Katie Aldrin and Christy Kozek and directed by Suze Sutherland. The second episode picks up directly from the premiere, with Lana and Sarah making their respective debuts. As Jordan flies to the Fortress of Solitude to try to save his father, Lana and Sara comfort Lois and Jonathan about Superman. Laura’s hologram in the Fortress could only freeze Superman’s body in suspended animation to protect his body, but she couldn’t bring him back because his heart was removed by Doomsday.
Jordan and Jonathan’s tense relationship seemed unresolved in season 3, as Jon found his brother difficult to deal with and acted as immature as usual, which is true. The twins got into an argument after Jordan flew home and revealed to Jon that he was secretly searching for Doomsday in an attempt to win Clark’s heart back. Jordan is still very arrogant and naive, Lex is a killer, and the powers Jordan possesses don’t put him in any danger, especially since Doomsday (Lex’s lapdog) is powerful enough to kill Superman.
Lex:
Lex’s company has been going through some financial problems, but he doesn’t care about them because his purpose in life now seems to be to make Louis suffer. Putting Lex in jail again won’t do Kent any good, and I don’t see Lex being dead or incapacitated by the end of the season. His daughter wanting nothing to do with him may come into play at some point this season, especially since that’s Lex’s main motivation for revenge (he feels like Louis stole his chance to be a good father to his daughter).
Jordan’s innocence:
Jordan confronts Lex during the meeting, but as Lex points out to him. Jordan doesn’t have the courage to do what Lex thinks needs to be done to stop him from saving his family. Jordan is not a killer. Lex also told Lois that he discovered that Lois and Superman were married and that the mysterious Superboy who had previously threatened him was one of her sons. Lex even asks Jonathan if he has powers too, revealing that he knows Jordan is the one with powers that he was confronted with earlier. In true Jordan fashion, he fell into Luther’s trap and nearly died. He only survived because Lex kept him alive to show that the Kents didn’t stand a chance against him. This is why Lex crushed Superman’s heart. I think Lex’s confidence may have been his undoing again, he didn’t believe anyone else was smart enough to deal with him, and he still hasn’t changed.
Finish:
Jordan brought his brother and mother to the Fortress, where they discovered that Superman had scanned his brain in the Fortress in case anything happened to him, so that his family would always be there for him for help. It’s a great way to keep Tyler Hoechlin active in the show outside of flashbacks when Superman goes missing. The show ended its season premiere with Lois, Jon, and Jordan as the final members of Superman Legacy.
Other ideas:
1. This season feels like the midpoint of the series rather than the finale, as Superman and his family still have a lot of stories to tell and villains to face.
2. Both parts of the premiere largely set the stage for Season 4’s main storyline, which appears to be how the Kent family will survive in a world without Superman.
3. I’m not the only one who’s seen photos of Elizabeth Henstridge (Simmons on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). The actress has directed a few episodes of the show before, but she’s yet to appear on the show. Now in the play. I wonder who she plays?
4. The show has some great visual effects shots in both episodes, with Jordan’s super-speed battles being a great example of just how powerful the speedster can be. The fight scenes in both episodes are as exciting as ever.
5. I think the budget cuts were mostly due to the absence of certain actors, but visually the show is as consistent as ever. I don’t think the show has dropped in quality, if anything, everything feels more intentional and focused on when supporting characters appear and how they are used in the plot.
judgment:
Superman & Lois returns with an excellent final season that reminds us why the show shouldn’t end so soon. If the season premiere is reflective of the rest of the final season, I’m glad the show will be on a high note.
