Law & Order: SVU’s latest Kelli Giddish news opens door to One Chicago crossover.
“SVU” and “One Chicago” are set in the same universe, and the two shows have had cases in common in the past, but that hasn’t happened in a decade.
When Elliot Stabler returns as a member of the Organized Crime Unit, it seems like the perfect setup for him to team up with Chicago PD’s Hank Voight to solve the case, and about Amanda Rollin The latest news from Si provides a stronger reason for his return.
Amanda Rollins will work for NYPD intelligence unit
This is also the Chicago unit where Voight works
Although Rollins will be a regular addition to the cast of Law & Order: SVU Season 26, she won’t be working for SVU, but instead for the newly added Intelligence Unit.
This is disappointing, although it makes sense since Benson was hesitant to rehire Rollins and now has a full team.
However, there are two silver linings to the latest news about SVU Kelli Giddish. Not only will Rollins be appearing on our screens part-time again, but her new role makes a crossover with Chicago P.D. a much more likely possibility.
Rollins works in the NYPD’s intelligence unit, which means she sometimes consults with other intelligence units out of state, including the Chicago Police Department’s intelligence unit, which is run by Hank Voight.
At the very least, this setup should allow for a guest appearance by Jason Beghe as Voight, similar to how the FBI’s Jubal Valentine often appears in other federal investigations A method of assisting cases through video chat in bureau programs.
There could also be a bigger case that has Rollins having to travel to Chicago, or members of Voight’s team coming to New York again to work on a crime that originates in one city but involves another.
SVU’s latest Kelli Giddish news could spark a big crossover event
Dick Wolf’s universe has expanded significantly since 2014
Cameo appearances are just the tip of the iceberg.
There are currently six “Dick Wolf” shows on the air: three “Law & Order” shows (also including “Law & Order: Organized Crime,” which only airs this year on “Peacock”), three “One Chicago” ” show and three “FBI” shows.
So, in theory, a crossover with Intelligence could cover all six shows.
The easiest connection is SVU with the Chicago Police Department, but the NYPD Intelligence Unit could easily coordinate with the Organized Crime Unit or any FBI unit on the case.
FBI: The international investigation is the trickiest because it takes the case across the Atlantic.
However, the NYPD Intelligence Unit, the FBI Fugitive Task Force, and the Chicago Police Department Intelligence Unit may need to work with Interpol to track down a fugitive who has fled to Europe, hoping to never be held accountable for his crimes.
Likewise, if the victim suffered life-threatening injuries or the case involved arson in some way, Chicago Med or the Chicago Fire Department may become involved.
The latest Kelli Giddish news from Law & Order SVU opens the door to endless possibilities for crossovers, and it’ll be interesting to see how our favorite characters work together (or not!).
Voight and Stabler will be the most notable because they are so similar.
The two of them don’t mind throwing the rules out the window to get justice, and there could be some romantic rivalry surrounding Benson.
Benson and Voight don’t count for a dramatic breakup, as their relationship has fizzled out, but it’ll be interesting to revisit it a decade later, especially with Stabler back in the fold.
Of course, the most important thing about the latest Kelli Giddish news on SVU is that Rollins will be back on our screens, and she may have some interesting stories to tell closer to home.
Even a small crossover can do its job
SVU’s latest Kelli Giddish news could also lead to crossover within the series
Now that Rollins will be working for Intelligence, a Chicago One crossover is the most exciting possibility, but they’re not the only one.
Given that both series take place in New York City, FBI might be a more realistic crossover idea.
Additionally, there may be crossovers with other Law & Order shows. Rollins helped fight organized crime but has yet to appear in the original “Law & Order.”
The original series covered homicide, with other teams being called in as needed and occasionally working with SVU on sexual assault cases.
Cases involving spies, gang leaders or others who might be of intelligence concern could easily result in the department having to subpoena Rollins.
Additionally, there may be some overlap between suspects that the intelligence community is interested in and criminal organizations that the organized crime unit is trying to dismantle, so any such crossover could involve Law & Order: Organized Crime.
(Blue Bloods isn’t a Dick Wolf show, which is too bad because Jamie works for their version of NYPD Intelligence and I’d love to have him share scenes with Rollins!)
Rollins’ recurring presence makes crossovers easier
The latest Kelli Giddish news from SVU makes every appearance special
Since Rollins won’t appear in every episode of Law & Order: SVU Season 26, the show will need a reason to include her when she becomes involved in the story.
Presumably, the SVU needs to seek information from intelligence agencies or collaborate on joint cases.
Therefore, SVU needs to reach out to other agencies (like the FBI or the Chicago Police Department), which is just a small step to making crossovers easier and more realistic.
Rollins should be more fulfilling on his new career path, which is exciting. Glad she’s back, even if she doesn’t make a crossover appearance.
Still, the setup is so perfect that it would be a shame if a plot like this didn’t happen.
Over to you, SVU fanatics. Would you like a Rollins-Chicago One crossover car?
