2024 Comedy Short Films sweep week It means that the new broom can indeed sweep clean. At least that’s true for the main character; Burt/Brock. Steve Blackwood produced, directed and wrote this truly entertaining piece of comedy. He also produced the soundtrack with Christopher Bowden, a man who’s practically a cottage industry.
story
After more than a decade working on the soap, Bullock learned that his character Bert would die during Sweeps Week. He is not happy. *For those who don’t know: Sweep Week is a time when TV shows try to increase their ratings.
main cast
Steve Blackwood is producer Steve Heyman.
Brian J. McDonald is Bullock/Burt.
Hallie Curley plays Marla/Kelly.
All the actors deliver here. Macdonald is excellent as the actor frustrated by Heyman’s infidelity. Curley does a great job playing the two-faced actress trying to climb the ladder. Blackwood kills it as an incompetent producer.
It’s sweeping week
This comedy short works on many levels. Anyway, to me, it’s funny lol. Blackwood starts off with a joke that could be a nod to the great master of pranks, Alfred Hitchcock.
*In the 1939 film 39 stepsHitchcock allegedly handcuffed two actors throughout the night, claiming he could not find the keys.
exist sweep week It begins with a decidedly unpopular cast member; Marla is tied up during lunch.
“Is there anyone? Is there anyone? Can anyone help me untie it?
Dialogue is key
The key to this production being so successful is the dialogue and script. blackwood has base sweep week About what happened in his career. *Back to his soap opera days.
The setting? A stupid and incompetent show producer decides to kill off a character who has been on the show for over a decade. He was excited about his bold decision and couldn’t understand the actors’ anger and surprise.
There’s a lot going on here
Blackwood made the 10 minutes busy. He cross-referenced events and gave a hilarious spin on the story. If you pay attention, you will find that some things in the “show” reflect “real life”. Of course, the underlying themes are just as interesting as the overt things.
Heyman agonized over how long it took him to decide how to remove the character, which is a piece of gold.
*Thanks to Blackwood for singing the ending song with enough jazz, I’m busy trying to find out who this great singer is. *
behind the camera
Jeffrey Buchbinder adds some wonderful mirror shots that impressively touch upon the plot references.
Christopher Bowden also worked with Blackwood on the score and edited it sweep week With a deft touch, he makes those backstage shots work.
Karen Blackwood does an excellent job as the production designer.
judgment
sweep week It’s comedy gold. The film is both entertaining and topical. It easily earns a perfect 5-star rating from us. It’s making its way into the festival circuit and is sure to win many gongs. Don’t forget: “No evil twins this time.” Grab this one while you can and get ready to laugh.
