“Sweet Magnolias” will return on February 6th.
It’s been 18 months since the third season of Sweet Magnolias premiered, and the wait for season 4 seems never-ending.
We understand if you need a recap of the season’s highlights.
Dana Sue and Ronnie’s relationship was the highlight of the season, and they renewed their vows in front of the entire community in the season finale.
Their true, hard-won love inspired Annie to break up with Jackson and rely on Ty, who was always there for her.
Maddie and Bill ended season three on a better note, but their kids still don’t know Isaac is related to them.
Additionally, while it’s cute to watch Carl and Maddie woo each other again, it also seems like a step backwards, as many fans believe they would now be engaged, if not married.
Let’s go over everything you should know ahead of Sweet Magnolias Season 4.
The Mulan family feuds over Helen’s decisions that affect the series’ core relationship
The most brutal storyline was watching Maddie and Dana Sue argue with Helen about her choice to date Ryan. These three are the core characters of the series, and everything seems different when they fight.
Let’s face it. Helen and Eric are the perfect match, but Helen has to try to be with her old flame, and Maddie and Dana Sue should let her make some mistakes before getting involved.
As soon as the accusations came out, Helen was offended and left town.
Although the women missed each other, they were too stubborn to admit it until Maddie wrote her first apology letter.
It’s refreshing that even strong friendships can have cracks, but hopefully we won’t have to endure that again.
Thankfully, Helen and Ryan break up, and when Helen and Eric stare at each other at their wedding, the ice begins to melt between them. There is hope.
When the women reconciled, they decided to use the inheritance Danasu had inherited from Ms. Frances to start a foundation to help others.
We didn’t see much of it, so hopefully this will be a more important arc next season.
Ronnie’s sister tried to destroy Danasu’s happiness but failed
At the beginning of Sweet Magnolias Season 3, it was revealed that the mysterious woman who wanted to harm Dana Sue was Ronnie’s sister, Kathy.
She holds a grudge against her because she believes she was supposed to inherit Sullivan’s legacy, but it fell into the hands of Dana Sue.
Casey isn’t an interesting villain, but a threatening one. She ruined Annie’s 16th yearth At the birthday party, poached Eric to her new restaurant while he was vulnerable, and vandalized Sullivan’s restaurant. I’m not sure why Ronnie forgave her.
The only good part of this storyline is that it shows how much Ronnie loves Dana Sue and Annie. Hopefully we’ll get to see some intense family moments in season 4, too.
Tired of his sister’s revenge, Ronnie wrote her a check in hopes that she would leave.
This almost prevents the vow renewal as he uses the wedding funds while the Mulan family and other members of the community throw a beautiful celebration for Dana Sue and Ronnie.
Bill makes the ultimate sacrifice, apologizing for hurting Maddie and encouraging Kathy to make amends with her family as well. The two left town together, hopefully forever.
McGrady and Karl reevaluate their relationship
Poor Carl. The series really destroyed his character.
He had never had anger issues before, but he hit someone in Sullivan’s restaurant. Of course, this worries Maddie, but her kids are more worried about how things will turn out because they all love Carl.
No one can prove it, but it reeks of Mary Vaughn sending that guy to trigger Carl so he would lose his job and Maddie. Initially, they take a step back to find their own selves.
While I thought it was unnecessary, I was happy to see more male bonding and cute flirting between the men when Carl and Maddie started dating again.
Clearly, they still love each other, but need to slowly rebuild the foundations. Now that they have it, I hope they can get the happiness they deserve.
Teenagers make important life decisions
While the core focus is Team Mulan, season three also focuses on the maturing teens. Annie grew up and realized that sneaking around with Jackson wasn’t worth it.
Sweet Magnolias Season 3 Episode 10 gave fans hope as Ty comforted Annie and held her hand. Will their relationship evolve from close friends to something more in Season 4? We enjoyed the slow burn but now wish it had a sizzle.
When Sissy’s parents moved out of state, she moved in with Helen. Heather Headley previously joked that they gave her a teenage child instead of giving Helen the child she wanted.
However, CeCe learned a lot from Helen, so it’s a fun addition that we hope to see more of.
We love that Annie, Sissy, and Lily are friends rather than rivals. Annie always wanted a friend like Magnolia. Now, that wish may have come true.
