Taylor Swift enjoys drinks like an “espresso” with Sabrina Carpenter on Saturday night (October 26) in New Orleans.
Swift joked that she was going to do something different with her sound equipment during the latest stop on her Eras tour – sing other people’s songs. “It’s always stuck in my mind,” she explained to the crowd at the Caesars Superdome, where she chose to bring a new flavor to the surprise song menu.
To the delight of many, she performed Carpenter’s summer hit “Espresso” on guitar. She then paused to ask her fans a silly question — “Can I call her and can you guys say hi?” — before picking up her phone and putting Sabrina through.
In a somewhat over-the-top performance by the pop star, Swift put Carpenter on speakerphone, held it up to the microphone, and asked her how long it would take to get to the stadium.
As it turns out, about five seconds later, they took the stage together to perform a mashup of “Espresso” with three of Swift’s songs. 1989 Vault track “Is It Over Now?” and another of Carpenter’s hits, “Please Please Please Please.”
What was the highlight of Swift’s Saturday night? As 11 o’clock approached in the evening, I had an excuse to sing the “Espresso” lyrics “I work late because I’m a singer” in front of a packed stadium.
“She did have a day off. She was on tour. It’s crazy that she came to perform for us,” Swift said at the end of their delightful duet. Carpenter exited the stage, leaving Swift alone on piano for the evening’s acoustic portion, where she performed a medley midnight Bonus songs “Hits Different” and 1989 The opening line is “Welcome to New York.”
