The Bachelorette Season 21 Episode 8 Recap: Is Someone Ready to Propose?

Devin forgot what show he signed up for. Jonathan is happy to be there, while Marcus is perpetually confused.

This is what you missed Happy Bachelorette.

As usual, a sleepover brings some revelations, sexy times, and, for one guy, a little meltdown. Let’s get started!

On The Bachelorette Season 21, Jenn was all smiles as she headed out for a sleepover date.On The Bachelorette Season 21, Jenn was all smiles as she headed out for a sleepover date.

The season flies by. How come we are already at the end when I clearly remember Hakeem getting all these balloons stuck in that tree like yesterday?

Regardless, the dramatic all-night episode begins like all the others before it, culminating in the two-hour finale of Devon’s experience.

Now we know that the sleepover won’t go his way and he’ll have to wait until later to find out why. I’m both curious and annoyed, so you win, ABC!

The Hawaii travel commercial is gorgeous, and then Molly shows up on Free Vacation to talk to Jenn about the importance of these dates and how she feels.

At this point, these men are in a unique category, different from each other, and she’s not saying anything groundbreaking here.

Basically, Devon is too good to be true, while Jonathan still isn’t open enough, and she likes Marcus more than he likes her. Dilemma, dilemma, dilemma.

Devin and Jenn were first in line, and it was time for the 383,002nd helicopter flight of the season. The cost of taking them around the world earlier than in the past was a helicopter ride and a packed lunch.

Everything about Jenn and Devin’s date day was sweet because you could tell there was a real connection between them and that he was head over heels for her. But this is the first time you know that Jenn likes this guy, but not completely.

I think everyone can relate to Jenn’s point about not wanting to self-sabotage and accepting good things for what they are, but it’s much easier to give advice to others.

It’s hard for me to hear Jenn outright say she doesn’t love Devin, so I can’t even imagine how Devin felt when he said he loved her again and met Cricket.

If I told someone I loved them and they said they were trying to get there, oh man, my therapist would be happy.

The dinner part of the date was much the same, and I felt for Devin because he was clearly ready for this to be over so he could play with his dog, run with his friends, and spend time with Jenn.

It’s a cute sentiment, but it also feels like Devin has forgotten that he’s on The Bachelorette and that he’s competing for someone. This is a race with a limited end date. You won’t win a contest and be notified overnight.

This is TV, man, and they have more time to make it.

Devon agreed to spend the night, and the two did, and the next day brought Pete Davidson jokes. I’m sorry, since when did you start comparing Devin to Pete Davidson?

I didn’t see this at all and felt like I wasn’t involved.

Perhaps the most awkward moment of the entire date was when Devin told Jenn he loved her again and they pulled apart, and she said everything was fine.

Jenn can only feel her feelings and stay true to herself, but oh my god! If I were Devin, my therapist would hate me.

Devin looked lonely when it was all over, and I was just as sad as Devin was when Jen left and he had more time to think about being stuck in Hawaii, knowing his girl didn’t love him.

Alas, let’s move on to Jenn and Jonathon. That’s the thing about these two guys; I didn’t see it.

I’m pretty sure Jenn didn’t see it either, but there must be three now. The rules are them!

The two ate some, which Jonathan clearly didn’t like, and then it was time for a packed lunch by the waterfall. Jonathan was right in wanting to bring her happiness, but what else did he want?

I don’t know, and obviously, neither does Jenn.

You can’t talk about the potential of a relationship and expect a proposal at the same time.

The dinner date gave Jen and Jonathan time to talk about their childhoods, embracing different cultures, and what life would be like for their hypothetical children. Jonathan sees a future, but does he want a future with Jane?

I asked the magic 8-ball and it said “very suspicious”.

Jonathan accepted the invitation to spend the night, and the next morning they looked like they were having a great time. Again there was talk of their potential and I’m ignoring it because maybe these two would have had a chance if the show had been extended for another two months, but that wasn’t the case and he didn’t offer it.

Before we get to Marcus, we get an intense Devin episode where he discusses his relationship with Jenn and oof and feeling like he’s not number one. It’s like he’s foreshadowing everything (sick days, the birth) because once we learn the news that Jenn is dating Marcus, she says that one of Devon’s biggest fears is understandable!

Oh, I cringed when Jen said she was in love with Marcus, if only because I and all of America knew he wasn’t in love with Marcus yet. He said this with as many tears as he could muster.

He began their date with uncertainty. She is entering the palace of love.

Devin is walking somewhere with the camera crew, reflecting on his current life situation against the backdrop of a Hawaiian sunset.

Jen and Marcus got the best date, a boat trip followed by a night swim with manta rays. They were flirtatious and happy, suggesting that the dinner part was anything but.

Marcus is nervous about the final rose ceremony, and he finally realizes that this whole thing should end with two people in love and ready to plan a wedding.

You could almost see the realization hit him as he sat at that table.

He drops that horrible underlying word again and I so want to fast forward but I couldn’t write this if I did and I know you’re glad I’ve been listening.

Jenn seemed shocked that Marcus admitted he didn’t love her, and I’m not going to lie, I don’t know why. Every time, he seemed to avoid expressing his feelings too deeply. Their feelings had not changed at all between their hometown and now.

Marcus and Jonathan feel like they are currently in the same position as Jenn, but the only difference is that Jenn prefers Marcus.

I’m not sure if these two end up spending the night together, but they do, and the next day, Marcus talks about their night being magical or something. But I will always hold on to him saying he wants to keep hoping he can fall in love with Jenn.

Just typing this sentence sends shivers down my spine.

We were supposed to go to the rose ceremony, but that didn’t happen because we didn’t even see Devin’s struggles earlier, so we had him talking to Jesse and expressing his feelings.

This feels like a classic moment we’ve seen over and over again on The Bachelor franchise.

Devon feels that he has been giving but has not felt love in return. So how can he feel comfortable proposing when he feels like he’s the only one willing to take the risk?

    (Disney/John Fleno)

For the first time all season I’m eager to know what’s going to happen next!

Devin isn’t leaving (I’d bet my Chevy Trax on that), but what would Jenn say to make him stay?

Will she tell him she’s in love with Marcus?

There are a lot of questions about Devon’s situation, but we’ll get the answers on tomorrow’s episode of Men Tell All, so let’s count our blessings!

Tell me what you think in the comments!

You can watch The Bachelorette every Monday at 8/7c on ABC.
