TEDx Talks released a great video called The Boy Who Lived: Surviving Harry Potterwhich features a Harry Potter stuntman David Holmes Telling his incredibly inspiring story.
“While David Holm was working as Daniel Radcliffe’s stunt double on the set of Harry Potter, a routine stunt went horribly wrong and his life was changed forever.
“This is an uplifting and compelling story of how David rose from the ashes and rebuilt his life as a broadcaster, disability ambassador and, most recently, a BAFTA-nominated documentary filmmaker.
“David Holmes is a broadcaster, author and stunt enthusiast. First and foremost, David is a gymnast who has been performing stunts since the age of 14 on Lost in Space. Since then, David quickly became a sought-after member of the stunt teams on big Hollywood productions, including Prince of Persia, The Golden Compass and all eight Harry Potter films, in which he played Daniel Radcliffe’s important role as a stand-in.
“David was registered as a stuntman at the age of 22 and had just become a key part of one of the biggest franchises of all time with the world at his feet; on January 28, 2009, at the age of 25, David Something went wrong during a stunt rehearsal, resulting in paralysis.
David Created HBO Documentary David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived In 2023, he revealed the nature of his accident and disability to millions of viewers.
“Moving, insightful and inspiring, this documentary reflects David himself, showing that his legacy is not only his contribution to some of the best stunt sequences in film, but also his courage, resilience and Unwavering determination.
“This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by the local community.”
