1999 short film The distant echo It’s all about good, bad and lonely. It’s about being the last person. Writer/director Clarke M Smith offers this fantasy/drama in a small exaggeration. To this point directly. What happens if the “Scrooge” type finds itself the successor to the earth?
story
exist The distant echo An unknown protagonist finds himself the last person on earth. A person has no feeling of being deprived of love and compassion for his fellow Homo sapiens. We follow his journey of discovery, perhaps to restore his own humanity.
actor
Peter Beam is Card Player #1.
Clarke M. Smith is a card player.
Greg Page is the last man on Earth?
it works
The distant echo Probably just the best homage to the late Rod Serling’s cult TV show: Twilight Zoneonce. What Serling offers to the pilot of his popular show is “Where is Everybody?” It’s starring Earl Holliman. It takes us through the pace of being alone in the world.
Just like our nameless protagonist The distant echoMike Ferris searches for people.
These two stories are similar, but not the same. In Salin Twilight Zone Pilot, Ferris’ journey is filled with real moments of fear. Uneasy is a day here. Freshly poured coffee and still smoking ends are still there.
No one decorates these props.
Those familiar Where are youwill remember that poor old Mike is the subject of military testing. The end of his story is madness.
difference
The distant echo There is another classic echo of the “Twilight Zone” (see what I did there?). Finally enoughan episode adapted from Serling from Lynn Venable’s story tells a similar story. A social discontent that hates fellow countrymen survives the bombs targeting his city center.
He realized he had “finally enough time” to read what was inside him. That episode has an ironic twist in the story. * Or poetic justice? *There is not that painful and twisted motivation behind Smith’s story.
The distant echo The idea of leaving the audience has not been abandoned yet. The end of forced loneliness is very different from the loneliness of his predecessors.
Several errors
Smith’s Lo/No budget movie works well. There are only a few errors in the whole The distant echo.
The first is the result of a change involving shooting anything that is not in a closed situation. Whether it’s your cousin Rachel’s wedding, Uncle Ralph’s golden anniversary or a 28-minute short film, The Stuff.
In one scene, in this empty world, a passing car glides in front of our protagonist. It can be seen on the plate-glass window of the business he stood before him.
The second invasion? We’ll let you search for that and let us know what you think.
judgment
The distant echo It may be old, but it is not indifferent. It earns a reliable 4.5 stars. It’s nervous, smart, and has a huge effort, and no big budget. You can watch short videos on YouTube. Go and check it out.
