Gladiator II The premiere took place on Friday night and early reactions are already spreading across social media.
The sequel to the 2000 film screened at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, where media and critics got their first look at the film starring Denzel Washington, Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal.
Gladiator IIDirected by Ridley Scott, Mescal stars as the adult Lucius Verus II, nephew of Emperor Commodus in the original film, played by Joaquin Phoenix. Forced into slavery, Lucius returned to Rome, not as a ruler but as a gladiator to fight for vengeance and power and seek to return the glory of Rome to the Roman people.
The cast also includes Connie Nielsen, Joseph Quinn, Derek Jacobi, Rory McCann, Fred Heckinger, Matt Lucas, Mae Karamavi, Tim Jim McInerney, Peter Mensah and Alec Utgoff. The film will be released in theaters on November 22.
Gladiator II is Paramount Pictures’ Thanksgiving hit comes after the original film, released more than two decades ago, won five Oscars and grossed $465.4 million worldwide. The first trailer released in July garnered 215 million global cross-platform views in just a few days.
