AMC’s Dark Winds may be the best show you’ve never heard of.
Thankfully, its status as a perennially underrated cult gem hasn’t stopped it from being updated.
Season 3 of “Dark Winds” will be released on March 9 on AMC and AMC+.
The network whetted our appetites with a trailer that fully embraced the noir nightmare vibe that made the first two seasons so memorable.
The Dark Wind, based on Tony Hillerman’s beloved book series, has a strengthened cast for its third installment.
Television veterans Jenna Elfman and Bruce Greenwood have signed on as series regulars.
The show also boasts a star-studded list of executive producers, including Robert Redford and George R.R. Martin.
The first two seasons of “Dark Winds” consist of six tightly plotted episodes.
The show’s episode order has now been expanded, perhaps proving its widespread critical appeal in an era when truly prestige television was hard to come by.
“The expanded eight-episode third season takes place six months after the events of season 2 and follows Lieutenant Joe Leaven (Zahn McClarnon) and Jim Chee (Kiowa Gore). Den) investigates the disappearance of two boys, only one of whom was abandoned.
Meanwhile, Bernadette Manuelito (Maarten) tries to start a new life with the Border Patrol 500 miles from home, but stumbles upon a conspiracy involving people and drug smuggling that affects Profound.
With its Southwestern setting, dark tone, and interest in criminal philosophy, “Dark Winds” has been compared to the first season of “True Detective.”
It’s not an unfair comparison, but Winds of Darkness also has a lot in common with more traditional programs.
In other words, if you’re on the fence about whether to participate in this show, you don’t have to worry about having any heavy thoughts about the cyclical nature of time.
That said, this series isn’t easy on viewers.
“We all have a thread deep within us. It’s a thread that separates monsters from humans,” Livern says in the trailer.
“I’m afraid I’ve crossed that line.”
Yes, Halloween may be over, but Winds of Darkness still sends shivers down our spines. We can’t wait to see what happens in season three.
