Joel and Ellie’s quest for survival in The Last of Us Season 1 ended with Joel killing countless people, perfectly setting up countless plot points for Season 2.
Thankfully, the wait is about to end. HBO has confirmed that an adaptation of the Naughty Dog video game series will return sometime in April.
With White Lotus Season 3 set to release in February, we’re inclined to believe it will premiere a week after it ends.
Considering how close we are to the premiere, you might think HBO would just reveal a specific date, but we’ll stay tuned.
“Five years after the events of Season 1, Joel and Ellie are caught in conflict with each other in a world more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind,” the synopsis states.
The cast of The Last of Us Season 2 includes Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, and Lutina L. Wesley.
But it certainly won’t be the last.
The cast of The Last of Us Season 2 is complete
New cast members this season include Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino Starring Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen Owen, Danny Ramirez as Manny and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac.
Catherine O’Hara also makes a cameo appearance, which we’re sure will be a hit with her fans.
The second season will be based on The Last of Us Part II, which was released on Playstation 4 in June 2020.
Being such a huge technical achievement, it has received numerous awards and recognition.
There are some polarizing elements to this story.
We won’t discuss them here as we don’t want to spoil any part for those who want to experience the show’s narrative for the first time.
There are some noticeable changes compared to the original game and Freshman Season, but most are 1:1 adaptations of the source material.
Viewers will meet Abby for the first time this season, as she is one of the playable characters in the second game.
‘The Last of Us’ Season 2 Misses a Big Trick
Based on the trailer alone, Caitlyn is primed to deliver a riveting performance.
Caitlin has proven to be a versatile talent after starring in The Last Man Standing and the alien film No One Can Save You.
There’s no indication of how many seasons The Last of Us Part II will run, but it sounds like we’ll need more than one to do the story justice.
Hopefully the series will expand on some of the game’s storylines, but we think they missed a trick by making such a significant time jump between seasons.
Giving video game fans some time in the timeline between the two games could have greatly enhanced some of the bolder storytelling choices.
