Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics, in partnership with Universal Products & Experiences, announce a new four-issue limited comic series, Universal Monster: Mummy.
Comics from writers and artists Faith Erin Hickswho has previously engaged in “Friends with Boys,” “The Adventures of Superhero Girl,” “The Unknown: The Divided Earth,” “Pumpkinhead,” “The Last of Us,” “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and buffy the vampire slayer, with colorist Lee Loveridge.
“What I love most about The Mummy is the romance behind all the horror,” Hicks said in a statement. “A mortal rebels against the ancient gods to resurrect his dead lover and pays the ultimate price, thousands of years later.” Became a walking ghost of death.
“The Mummy is essentially a tragic figure who is driven by his own pain and loss, his understandable human emotions twisted into behavior. Telling the story from the perspective of Helen, the modern incarnation of the Mummy’s long-dead lover, is a wonderful an exciting story and illustrates her growing awareness of the heartbreaking horrors lurking in the shadows of early 20th century Egypt.
“I hope fans of all versions of The Mummy enjoy my take on this romantic horror (or horror romance) story.”
Alex Antone, editorial director of Skybound, added: “Helen Grosvenor was a woman born in two worlds but belonging to neither. A cursed encounter haunts her forever.
“When an unknown voice transports her from the past to an Egyptian excavation site, Helen will unknowingly play an unexpected role in the rise of a monster known only as…the Mummy!”
“Faith Erin Hicks’s take on ‘The Mummy’ is unique and stunning,” she said. “While she returns to her horror roots, it’s safe to say you’ve never seen anything like this before. Faith Erin Hicks!
