The search for a new James Bond is underway, and we don’t know who will be the next actor to play the character. There are a lot of rumors and speculation, but nothing is set in stone.
In a recent interview with The Independent , the long-time franchise producer barbara broccoli and her brother, Michael G. Wilsontalked about the future of James Bond and the type of actor they are looking for.
Broccoli explained that “it’s a big decision” and that whoever signs up to play 007 must meet certain conditions. She explained:
“It’s going to be a man. He’s probably in his 30s. Whiteness is not a given. Whoever says it is is doing so with the expectation of at least a decade’s worth of movies.”
The fact that they were looking for actors in their 30s dictated some fan-favorite choices, such as Idris Elba (Luther) and Tom Hardy (venom). It also rules out the idea of a woman playing Bond. but Aaron Taylor Johnson (Shinkansen, Kick-Ass) may still be an option.
On top of that, whoever signs on will have to commit to at least ten years, which is a long time, but it’s what most actors who sign on to play Bond require.
Wilson went on to add: “Every time we cast a new actor, the movie changes. It’s the excitement of a new Bond, a new direction. Everyone who plays the character offers something new and different.”
Broccoli went on to talk about her late father’s thoughts on the film, saying, “He always said movies were like a circus coming to town. You put up a tent, everyone comes, and you create magic. It’s all about pleasing the audience and making sure people get their money’s worth.
I guess casting for the new Bond is still a while away, but it will be interesting to see who they end up choosing. While we wait, which of their up-and-coming actors do you think would be a good choice?
