The second episode of Daryl Dixon’s The Book of Carol improved thanks to better pacing and plot. The writers of “TWDU” are good at conveying central messages through characters and events, and in this episode, they chose to juxtapose doubt with certainty. Doubt creates anxiety. Certainty can be reassuring. Overreliance on any one of them can lead to bad decisions. Let’s take a closer look…
The episode begins with Laurent musing and praying – grappling with his place in the lair. Doubt fuels his anxiety about becoming humanity’s savior. Laurent just wants to be a family kid with Isabel, and he wants Daryl to guide and accompany them. In one class, Lausanne acknowledged Laurent’s doubts and advised: “Doubt is a question that faith can answer. You doubt because you are special, not because you are not special.

Jacinta, one of Laurent’s teachers, asked Lausanne about his and Laurent’s preparations. She doubts Daryl’s willingness to stay at the lair and is convinced that Laurent will probably leave with him. Jacinta engages in a verbal argument with Lauzon, saying, “Even believers are tired of waiting for salvation. The answer to failure is not faith, but evidence.” Lauzon parries by telling Jacinta, “Daryl will change his mind.” , the doubters can leave if they do not support our mission.” Unfortunately, Lausanne was overcome by his doubts and decided to hold the ceremony in advance to test Laurent’s specialness. The test would send a signal and remove any doubt among followers that Laurent was the savior.
Lausanne watches Daryl and Isabelle play baseball with Laurent. It’s a critical moment in their relationship when Daryl tells Isabelle Laurent that he doesn’t believe some of the things he’s been taught. Isabelle said it was healthy. He also tells her that she is not like the others in the nest; she is more like “us/him”. Isabelle questions what this means. It seemed to me that she was doubting the status of their relationship. Isabelle explains that she and Laurent are supposed to be in the nest, and that’s what keeps them going. Daryl suggests, “Maybe this is it. Something to keep you going,” but they could have made different choices. Make choices for meaningful reasons. There are always questions. Sometimes faith can make up the difference. You understand; otherwise, how can we go to the other side of the world by boat?
While the story unfolding in the lair is interesting, Carol feels forced into Daryl’s world, like Cinderella’s stepsisters trying to fit their feet into Cinderella’s glass slipper. This trip reduces credibility and makes it difficult to believe Carol and Ash’s story. Regardless, Carol and Ash’s plane crashes due to a ruptured fuel line, forcing them to make a stopover in Greenland. They meet two strange women, Hannah and Eun, who have survived a climate research facility. The women rescued them from the Tupilag, or swamp walker.
Isabelle sounds the alarm that Lauren is missing. Jacinta reported that two men scaled the wall and took him away. Daryl summons Sylvie’s lover Emile, Falu, Isabelle and others in the lair to rescue Laurent. Emir, who behaves strangely, tries to dissuade Faroo from going. Lausanne tries to prevent Isabel from participating. But they all went with Daryl. Lausanne ordered someone to follow Daryl, showing another leader willing to share power, just like Rick did on the flagship show.
Ash and Carol face a tough situation with Hannah and Eun. Hannah believes that ZA is nature’s way of fighting back, while En hopes that humans will survive by repopulating the earth. Hannah tells Carol: “I should kill you, but I don’t want to.” Carol replies with a cruel sense of humor: “That’s consistent.” When Eun returns to discover that Hannah did not kill Carol Then, things went awry. Hannah killed Eun. Carol agrees to take Hannah to France. Eun told Ash that Hanna would kill Carol, so when he saw them approaching, he didn’t realize she was no longer a threat. As Hannah talks wistfully about her hopes for a future beyond Greenland, Ash kills her. He and Carol continued flying to France.

Daryl works as a tracker and leads the team to the Moulin Rouge. In the lair, Sylvie discovers that Laurent has not been taken away. Daryl and his party were ambushed. Calm down surpriseDestroyer from the Lair. Daryl, Isabelle and Falloo overcome them. Emile was part of the plot to kill Daryl, explaining that there were fears that Laurent would leave the lair, threatening the Alliance’s mission. Emile tells them that Lausanne intends to test Laurent’s ability to withstand a walker bite. As Emil spoke, he touched the charm that Sylvie hung around his neck. Isabelle takes a breath, and then we hear gunshots.
Ash and Carol are in France, and Carol promises to be back soon. Ash agrees to stay and make fuel. He said “bonne opportunity” to Carroll. Plot wise Carol lucks out and walks right into the hands of Madame Genet. The authors effectively describe Genet’s efforts to break down League supporters. She seduces them with “hot food, wine, a warm bed, and a restoration of order.” Carol, fearlessly or foolishly, ends up becoming one of Genet’s volunteers.

Daryl, Falu, and Isabelle return to the lair to retrieve Laurent. Continuing their key conversation from before, Isabelle laments, “All these years, I’ve believed that the Nest was the place that could save humanity.” Daryl reiterates, “You have to believe in something.” They share a story about the French word “depaysant.” conversations, which means a change of circumstances or looking at things differently. If the offer still stands, Isabelle agrees to leave with Daryl. Any viewers who doubted the romantic pairing between Isabelle and Daryl were misled. Indeed, their passionate kiss was proof of that. Oh, la la!
Lausanne and Jacinta continued to push and parry. Jacinta accuses Lausanne of being skeptical about the plan to test Laurent. Lausanne countered her attack, quoting Descartes, reciting: “Doubt is the origin of wisdom.” Lausanne was conflicted when Jacinta revealed that she had “modified the order.” Daryl, and possibly Isabelle and Falu, won’t be coming back because they’re already dead. Jacinta stressed that they had come too far to be set back by (Lausanne’s) weaknesses. After losing a loved one, Lausanne asked the common question in TWDU: “Is this who we are? Is this who we want to be?” Jacinta said dryly: “What we all want is certainty. There is no certainty. , everything will fall apart.”

Carol’s story becomes even more interesting when she is loaded into the back of a truck as one of Madame Genet’s volunteers. She met a former English teacher who told her where they were going. The French questioned why they separated him from his husband. Carol knew nothing good would come of this separation. We hear sounds of torture. Mrs. Genet tells Stefan (the guy with the tattoo on his face) a story about her waitress mother. Ostensibly comparing Stefan to a wine cork, he sat there covered in blood and bruises, listening to Genet say: “The secret to pulling out a stuck cork is patience. You don’t pull too lightly or too hard.” Use force. You have to figure it out. The information Madame Genet seeks about the nuns, the children, and the Americans is in Stefan’s body, and the final shot is of a pocket watch engraved with Nest.
Now that Carol is ready to talk to Madame Genet, Carol’s Book is getting better. After watching this episode, what questions do you have, and what are you certain about? Send me a message. I’d love to talk to you. Overall Rating: 9/10
