Boundaries are crucial to their growth.
Poor Gia. In Three Women Season 1 Episode 7, both Jake and Lena sometimes respect her boundaries.
Focusing solely on Gia and Jake’s and Lena’s and Aiden’s relationships and how they intertwine would have allowed these storylines to breathe better, unlike the choppy and abrupt cuts of “3 Women” Season 1 Episode 6 .
Gia often struggles with boundaries and trauma issues. Since I finished reading the book, I was excited that it included a backstory about Gia’s mom being stalked by a man who masturbated and was aroused by her mom’s legs.
This is a big part of Lisa Taddeo’s book and now Gia’s story. As Gia said, her mom never discussed what she wanted, which may have shaped Gia’s character.
It’s obvious that Lisa Taddeo and Laura Eason co-wrote this episode, as it contains many actual scenes from the book.
After losing her parents and having a miscarriage, Gia was terrified of letting people in.
There’s a fine line between Jack pursuing her, trying to support her, not giving her space, and respecting her boundaries.
There was something endearing about Jack. He believes in true love, but calling Gia an idiot is the worst thing he can do.
I’m not sure why she jumped back into his arms, unless he was the only man who saw her.
There was something about him. He meant well, suggesting that there was something wrong with both of them and that maybe they could try to have another baby later. But it doesn’t seem right to suggest that Gia is crazy when he has stalking tendencies.
Lena wasn’t much better. Although they have become good friends, they don’t seem close enough for Lena to drop the kids off at will so she can go on a sex date.
Lena barely noticed that Gia and Jack were doing something. However, Jack jumps at the chance to watch the boys perform and prove to Gia that they are good with kids.
Gia seems to be trying to become more responsible, while Lena is trying to escape her old life. Since Lena’s family was religious and judgmental, it’s hard to blame her, unless she mortgaged her children to many people.
In some ways, Lena and Jack are similar. She rearranges her entire life to fit in Aidan’s world and begins to feel the sting of dating a married man.
Their sex scenes are some of the hottest in the series. However, he told her again that he didn’t have much time after she changed her schedule for him.
After so many years of being sexually starved, it makes sense that Lena would become a sex maniac. She deserves someone to put her first, not rush around in the back seat of a car.
I wish I believed they would have worked because Lena and Aidan had chemistry, but she separated so they could be together while he was still married.
This is a very conflicting episode because Lena deserves happiness and freedom, but she acts like the world revolves around her.
She seriously thought Gia should drop everything the moment she texted, and then she could spend the night knocking on doors. Only lifelong friends would do this in a critical situation.
She never even asked how Gia was, or how Gia was handling Jack being back in her life. Lena didn’t know that Gia was pregnant again, nor did she know that Gia was confused.
Gia and Lena are complete opposites. She is afraid of falling in love and is willing to sell everything she owns to support herself and raise her children.
Gia had a boyfriend who was willing to sell his car to buy back her mother’s pearls, move across the country for her, and raise her children with her, which terrified her.
She didn’t think anything good had ever happened to her, and if it had, then she would have been punished.
Lena, on the other hand, considers her breakup with Aidan in high school to be the worst thing that has ever happened to her, even worse than being sexually assaulted by four boys in high school.
Lena reminds me of Nora from Law & Order: SVU Season 26 Episode 3, in that she’s more worried about Aidan’s reaction to her attack than her trauma. Lena refuses to see it as rape and still believes it was her cheating on Aidan.
If she had listened to Gia, she would have admitted that Aidan was not her Prince Charming and that he had let her down.
Betty Gilpin and Shailene Woodley are the protagonists of this series. They put on an emotional show as they reveal painful truths to each other.
While their relationship starts out more like client and subject, they evolve into almost a dysfunctional sisterly relationship. Even if their relationship doesn’t work out, they’ll have each other.
Lena needs to decide if she can be with Aidan even though he has no memory of her past. He only lives in the present, which may also affect their future.
However, before the child is born, Gia needs to believe in love. There’s nothing wrong with being a strong independent woman, but it helps to have someone to help you along the way.
Gia and Lena have a very close relationship. However, she barely interacts with Sloan or Maggie.
From that last scene on, I was curious to see what Sloane revealed about her situation with Will and Richard, and how Gia would react. She’s been through a lot sexually, so nothing shocks her.
What did you think of this week’s episode of TV Fanatic? Did you enjoy learning more about Gia and Lina’s relationship?
