Announced in 2012 Tom Hardy Will play Sam Fisher in feature film adaptation of hit video game cell division And that one Doug Liman (edge of tomorrow) will direct the film.
The project had a few updates over the years, but ultimately nothing came of it, and today, the film’s producers, Basil Ivanikconfirming that the film project has been terminated.
Ivannik told TheDirect that the Splinter Cell movie was shelved because the creative team “couldn’t get it right.” However, he did have some praise for the unproduced film, saying:
“That movie would have been great…it just didn’t work out well, script-wise or budget-wise. But it would have been great. We had a million different versions of it, but it would have been hardcore and awesome. This is One of the people who got away, which is really sad.
When previously talking about the film, the producers said the movie would feel more like a “Tom Hardy action movie” than a video game movie. He went on to talk about the challenges of making the film.
“The challenge in making Splinter Cell interesting is that we don’t have this IP with a very specific backstory. This allows us to build our own world and really enhance and flesh out the characters.
“I don’t think one applies to the other because I don’t think our movie will feel like a movie that comes out of a video game, I think it’s going to feel like a Tom Hardy action movie, and that’s what we want. .
He added: “We’re definitely going to make it a difficult PG-13. No, it’s not going to be like [John] Wick,” but this would be bad. The good news and the bad news is, obviously, there’s been a resurgence in the Bond movies, and the Jason Bourne movies are the Jason Bourne movies, so we’re trying to stay away from those movies in terms of tone and bad guys, in terms of setting.
“What kind of world have we not seen yet? What parts of the world and conflicts have we not really touched on in a movie in a long time to make it feel fresh?”
It will be interesting to see how this Splinter Cell movie turns out. I’m sure a Splinter Cell movie will be made one day, but it will come from a completely new creative team.
