Tommy Lee seems to dislike artists promoting themselves as wildfires continue to rage in Los Angeles.
Mötley Crüe’s founding drummer expressed his sentiments in an Instagram post shared on Monday (January 13), targeting those who continue to promote upcoming products and events as tragedies continue to unfold.
“It makes me sick to see most people only care about one issue [sic] Post on crappy social media! Lee wrote. “Guys, now no one cares that your record drops or that your next concert is when so many people are caught up in one of the greatest disasters of all time! I know there’s always a need for some comic relief, but Jesus Christ doesn’t Regardless, maybe stop and see who needs help, if you can.
Li’s statement is very pertinent. Indeed, many artists have decided to give up promotion. While the Grammy Awards decided to go ahead as planned, companies including Universal, Warner, Sony and BMG have all canceled Grammy-related events.
At the same time, artists also decided to take a step back. Beyoncé postponed an announcement originally scheduled for January 14, and The Weeknd postponed the release of his upcoming album and canceled his release-day performance at the Rose Bowl. Elsewhere, Nine Inch Nails were also forced to stop announcing a world tour (details of which were starting to leak anyway).
However, despite Lee’s stance on the matter, his remarks came after a video was shared on Mötley Crüe’s Facebook page promoting their upcoming residency in Las Vegas.
Although somewhat contradicted by his later statements, the post (possibly shared by the band’s social media team) comes just days after Mötley Crüe expressed their support for those affected by the fires in their hometown. “May you and your loved ones stay safe as we work together to overcome this,” the group wrote.
Mötley Crüe recently released their Cancel October’s EP is their first collection of music with new guitarist John 5 since retiring from the band two years ago.
