Swift spoke out against comedian Tony Hinchcliffe after he gave a controversial speech at a Donald Trump rally at Madison Square Garden over the weekend.
In addition to a series of racist remarks directed at Puerto Rico, the Latino community, black people, Jews, Palestinians and others, Hinchcliffe’s speech also included a number of derogatory remarks about music stars. “I don’t know about you, but I think Travis Kelce could be the next O.J. Simpson,” he said, referring to Swift’s Super Bowl-winning boyfriend, whom Trump endorsed on X last month.
Simpson, a successful professional football player, was charged with the June 1994 murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman, who were found stabbed to death in Los Angeles. The infamous eight-month murder trial resulted in his acquittal in October 1995.
Following Hinchcliffe’s speech, Swift’s fans took to social media to criticize the remarks and suggest Kelce might murder the “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” singer. “Since you’re here, can you elaborate on why calling Travis Kelce ‘the next OJ’ is funny?” one fan asked Hinchcliffe’s defense of his performance, noting that people “have no sense of humor.”
“This is so offensive,” wrote another, while a third said, “That racist comedian’s joke was so disgustingly racist and vile that #swifties didn’t notice he was joking Said Travis Kelce was the next O.J. Simpson, hinted he was going to kill Taylor Swift, and everyone laughed.
