Dutch independent short films 2024 Completely overor The Complete Ending , is about love. It’s also about fighting for what we want, and maybe just about how not to act in the face of the apparent apocalypse.
Screenwriters and actors Natasja Schaafsma, Isis Caljé, and Joyce Tevreden deliver an almost claustrophobic yet overcrowded experience. Eight minutes of hurt, pain, love and death. Not bad for a project with a 48-hour turnaround rule. As part of the Groningen 48 Hour Film Project, the film was completed from script to editing in just 48 hours. *From IMDb Trivia.
Milan Swagers, who directed the film and also edited the film, pulls the entire story together perfectly. Swaggs also served as fight coordinator for: Completely over And did visual effects. A quick shout out to the wounds the performers were stitching up; a brilliant piece made in 48 hours.
Cinematographer Lionel Kuyken makes the most of this intimate, almost claustrophobic set. He also clearly took advantage of the environment and natural lighting.
story
Lieke Van Dam is stitching up some wounds in the shelter. She spots two other survivors heading to safety. She went to help and it was love at first sight for her.
Her state of ecstasy might not last long, but the sanctuary was certainly packed with three people.
complete work
While the filmmakers didn’t include the kitchen sink, they put a lot into the short film, which is just over eight minutes long. Although brief, everything comes together well.
The action was well done and the fights were brilliantly choreographed. The three actors work well together and blend their characters perfectly. We get a very cohesive story with no backstory, but it works.
There will be people who dislike this movie, but not because of its content. Conversely, the subtitles themselves may turn viewers off before they even start watching the movie.
Judgment
I give Completely over 5 out of 5 stars. They met the 48-hour challenge and overcame it. The video can be viewed on YouTube. Come and see if this dramatic story hits the spot.
enjoy.
