The Last Showgirl has been described as “a poignant film full of grit, rhinestones and feathers”. Anderson plays Shirley, “a charming showgirl who must plan for her future when her show ends abruptly after 30 years.”
Set in Las Vegas, the film tells the story of a woman who finds herself in the final stages of a stage production.
The film is directed by Jia Coppola And it also has stars Kiernan Shipka, Brenda Song, Billie Lourd, Dave Bautista, and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Curtis plays Anderson’s character’s waitress and confidante. Bautista plays Shelley’s agent and former lover, who announces the end of Shelley’s career. Shipka and Song play two co-worker showgirls on their way to a better future. Louder plays Anderson’s daughter Hannah.
Anderson previously said of the film: “So much of my career has been about the body, and it’s been a journey, but that’s part of the reason why I did this experiment on myself, you know, to strip everything back and remember Who I am is not defined by what people do to me, but by what I do.
The film will have a limited release in Los Angeles on December 13 as an awards-eligible film and will be released in theaters nationwide on January 10.
