[The following story includes major spoilers for Wicked.]
Just one day. Coincidentally, this is how much time evil Filmmakers must shoot Those ones A cameo in the “One Brief Day” scene from the film based on the iconic Broadway musical of the same name.
In the film, when Glinda (played by Ariana Grande) and Elphaba (played by Cynthia Erivo) travel to the Emerald City to meet the wizard (played by Jeff Goldblum), they watch a A stage show about the history of Oz. At this point, it looks like original Broadway cast members Kristen Chenoweth and Idina Menzel, who played Glinda and Elphaba, respectively, in the musical, will take audiences through the city’s vibrant story.
“We’ll invite them to be a part of it,” director Jon M. Chu said. The Hollywood Reporter. “The question we have is, how and how much are they willing to do in it, and how well can the story itself handle that? Because they’re such iconic characters, especially for these characters.
He continued: “It’s like a craze. [We said]”Let them be the biggest stars in Oz.” Let them bring this iconic legend of Oz to the stage, let them present the history of Oz. They will become the wise women of Oz. This seems to make sense. and [composer] Steven Schwartz – this might actually be from my memory of him – said, “I know exactly what to do” because we needed some information about the historical story of Oz , and it would be them, so it would make more sense.
Chu explained that after smuggling Menzel and Chenoweth to London, they only had one day to shoot the scene. “We stayed one night in the middle of the night, from 7pm to 6am, on a rainy night. … The moment they broke into song and had that iconic moment, it was so beautiful. The coolest thing about the day Yeah, I think it’s really healing for everybody… I said, ‘This is a tribute to you. It’s an honor for us as a whole to make this movie because we want you to experience it. How I felt when I first saw this movie, when I went to the theater before it went to Broadway, and how I felt watching Elphaba and Glinda steal. Now we can do that for you. Ali cried the whole time. Cynthia was crying. There was so much love on the set that day. I didn’t know what it took to get them there. I just knew they were down and willing. time to do this.
Two other cameos appear in the sequence. Winnie Holzman, author of the original musical evilappearing as a resident of Emerald City. Schwartz appears at the palace and announces “The wizard wants to see you now!”
evilThe film, which opens in theaters Friday through Universal Pictures, also stars Michelle Yeoh as Mrs. Morrible, Jonathan Bailey as Fierro, Marissa Bird as Nessa Rose, and Keira Settle as Miss Cordell and Bowen Young as Pfanny, among others.
