Whenever they compete on “Dancing with the Stars,” Olympians, especially gymnasts and figure skaters, end up at the top of the leaderboard.
Now, two-time Olympic bronze medal model Stephen Nedoroscik joins Season 33. Laurie Hernandez that close to the title?
Let’s discuss his chances of winning.
Olympians have more skills and focus
Most Olympians have more drive and focus, but gymnasts and figure skaters have grace, musicality and tumbling skills that many other stars don’t possess.
Shawn Johnson is one of the youngest contestants to win Dancing with the Stars in Season 8.
While she and gymnast Laurie Hernandez were the only ones to win the mirror ball trophy, their teammates Aly Raisman and Simone Biles reached the semifinals, showing they have what it takes to compete in the competition Go further.
Dancing with the Stars Season 26 is a shortened season featuring only current and former athletes, which levels the playing field. Figure skater Adam Rippon and professional dancer Jenna Johnson won the season.
Many seasons aren’t fun because performers don’t learn skills easily or have arrogant attitudes, but most athletes are eager to learn new, challenging skills.
Stephen has excellent upper body strength from his pommel horse skills. This strength will help him stay in shape and help him perform flips and tricks in Latin dance and freestyle.
Dancing with the Stars relies on popularity
A large part of Dancing with the Stars’ success relies on the popularity of its stars. That doesn’t always work for B-list celebrities, many of whom viewers don’t recognize.
However, bringing in a sports star, especially after the Olympic cycle, is good for the show and will win ratings and votes for the star.
Season 26 premiered shortly after the 2018 Winter Olympics, starring popular Olympians such as luge athlete Chris Marzder, figure skaters Mirai Nagasu and Adam Rippon. This is one of the show’s most popular cycles.
Stephen Nedoroscik has a good chance of winning the audience vote as he became a hero with his pommel horse routine that helped the U.S. men’s gymnastics team win two bronze medals.
He became an internet celebrity overnight, and this was not long after the Olympic cycle ended.
Having him as Riley Arnold’s partner might be her best chance of winning a trophy in just her second season as a pro.
They already had chemistry and became friends. He taught Riley some moves on the pommel horse, which was smart because his confidence grew before learning new dance moves.
If they show off some cute moments during their first dance number on September 17, it will increase their chances of collecting more votes.
Dancing with the Stars Season 33 premieres Tuesday, September 17 at 8/7c on ABC.
